Ok, I hope this post isn't too insensitive, and I don't think its been discussed. If it has been discussed then I missed it.

Now, I am very respectful of human life and put it over football. (Just barely LOL). But the Clemson/Texas A & M game was unbelievably ridiculous.

I watch the entire game, and then with 2 minutes left and Clemson driving for the winning field goal, they cut in to tell me that Rehnquist has died. For one they could have scrolled it down the bottom of the screen. For another, they could have waited 5 minutes. But, they break away entirely from the game and give a history of the guy's life. Finally, they did come back with about 25 seconds left. I didn't think they would come back in time at all, but either way, I was and still am very pissed.

They show hundreds of commercials in the game. They make several of the games pay per view. Everything is driven by money. Well my time is money and if I invest 3+ hours into a game, I should get to watch it. There was no emergency. The guy will still be dead in 5 minutes.

I'm sure hundreds of other old people died that night. I didn't see them break away for any of those deaths. Man, that pisses me off.

Look....I had no problem with the initial breaking away. You always want to get the scoop as a news organization. Okay, fine, you break in to a major moment in a big football game and tell me for 30 seconds that an 81 year old man has died. No problem at all. So now I'm waiting for "we'll have more on this story following the game's conclusion."

BUT THEN YOU DO WHAT???? YOU AIR A 5 MINUTE OBITUARY WHILE CLEMSON IS DRIVING FOR THE POTENTIAL GAME WINNING TOUCHDOWN???? AND THIS AINT NO REGIONAL GAME EITHER!!!! ITS FREAKIN NATIONALLY TELEVISED. THERES DEGENERATES ALL OVER THE COUNTRY WITH THEIR CHILD SUPPORT PAYMENT ON THIS ONE....YOU D#CKWEEEDS!!!

Thats where there's a major problem....and thats where someone shoud be sh#tcanned

i agree 100%. i don't think common sense plays any role at all. is it really that difficult for a network executive to consider something like... "hmmm... maybe 99.5% of the audience for this FOOTBALL GAME does not need to know right now that this old guy died." wait a minute, did i just use "network executive" and "common sense" in the same sentence? i think i've found the problem.

Yeah. I was slightly upset when they broke away from the game when they could have just had the info scrolling on the bottom. But I figured, just like you, 30 seconds and they'll be back. Kind of shitty but ok whatever.
But 5 ****ing minutes. Give me a break.
