Consider the source (Paul McGuire on ABC)....

WVA fumbled the ball prior to crossing the goal line against Rutgers. The official on the field ruled a TD. They reviewed the play, but it was a moot point because WVA recovered the fumble in the endzone.

My question is that McGuire said he went to the replay booth and was told that once the official raises his hands to signal a TD and blows his whistle, the play is dead and that IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN REVIEWABLE.

If that's the case, why do we see reviews on whether a player crossed the goal line or not?

Am I missing something?

Watching the same game. I don't know why the officials don't make the posession call when they unpiled them. WV recovered in the end zone. TD no question?

Yeah, I agree that it was a TD WVA... my problem is that the replay official told McGuire that once the TD signal was given (although it was clearly a fumble) it was not reviewable. So if Rutgers has recovered the fumble, it still would have been a TD for WVA.

Doesn't seem correct.
