anybody surprised by this ?

Associated Press

A federal grand jury has indicted Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick in an investigation into illegal dog fighting.

Vick and three others are charged with violating federal laws against competitive dog fighting, procuring and training pit bulls for it and conducting the enterprise across state lines.

According to court documents filed by federal authorities, dog fights have been sponsored by "Bad Newz Kennels" at the property since at least 2002. For the events, participants and dogs traveled from South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, New York, Texas and other states.

Members of the venture also knowingly transported, delivered and received dogs for animal fighting, the documents state.

Fifty-four animals were recovered from the property during searches in April, along with a "rape stand," used to hold dogs in place for mating; an electric treadmill modified for dogs; and a bloodied piece of carpeting, the documents said.

The documents said the fights usually occurred late at night or in the early morning and would last several hours. The winning dog would win from "100's up to 1,000's of dollars," and participants and spectators also would place bets on the fight.

Before fights, the participating dogs of the same sex would be weighed and bathed, according to the filings. Opposing dogs would be washed to remove any poison or narcotic placed on the dog's coat that could affect the other dog's performance. Sometimes participants would not feed a dog before the fight to "make it more hungry for the other dog," the documents said.

Fights would end when one dog died or with the surrender of the losing dog, which was sometimes put to death by drowning, strangulation, hanging, gun shot, electrocution or some other method, according to the documents.

During a June search of the property, investigators uncovered the graves of seven pit bulls that were killed by members of "Bad Newz Kennels" following sessions to test whether dogs would be good fighters, the documents said.

Members of "Bad Newz Kennels" also sponsored and exhibited fights in other parts of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, New Jersey and other states, the filings said.

On April 25, a search of the house owned by the Atlanta Falcons quarterback and inhabited by his cousin, Davon Boddie, uncovered drug paraphernalia and 66 dogs in the backyard. A search warrant affidavit said some of the dogs were in individual kennels and about 30 were tethered with "heavy logging-type chains" buried in the ground.

The chains allowed the dogs to get close to each other, but not to have contact, one of myriad findings on the property that suggested a dogfighting operation.

I wish they would just execute those dickwads responsible for animal cruelty. They are truly worthless fodder just crowding up the already over populated Earth. Worthless shit not worth the sperm that created them. It goes back to the good ol' sayin...why couldnt they have just been one of their mama's blowjobs.

Four Individuals Indicted in Virginia Dog Fighting Venture

(Richmond, Virginia) - Purnell Peace, age 35, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Quanis Phillips, age 28, of Atlanta, Georgia; Tony Taylor, age 34, of Hampton, Virginia; and Michael Vick, age 27, of Atlanta, Georgia, were indicted today by a federal grand jury for conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities ("Travel Act"), and to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture, in voilation of federal law. Chuck Rosenberg, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Brian L. Haaser, Special Agent-in-Charge, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Inspector General, Northeast Region, made the announcement.

If convicted on the Travel Act portion of the conspiracy charge, each defendant faces a statutory maximum of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and full restitution. If convicted on the animal fighting venture portion of the conspiracy charge, each defendant faces one year in prison, a $100,000 fine, or both. The indictment also includes a forfeiture allegation seeking recovery of any property constituting, or derived from, proceeds obtained directly or indirectly as a result of these offenses.

According to the indictment, the defendants were involved in an ongoing animal fighting venture based out of a property located in Smithfield, Virginia, from early 2001 through on or about April 25, 2007. The property was purchased by Vick in June 2001. Since that time, the named defendants formed a dog fighting enterprise known as "Bad Newz Kennels" and used the property for housing and training pit bulls used in dog fights. From at least 2002, the defendants and others sponsored dog fights at the property, where participants and dogs traveled from South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, New York, Texas, Alabama, and other states to participate. Generally, only those accompanying the opposing kennels and "Bad Newz Kennels'" associates attended the fights. For a particular dog fight, the participants would establish a purse for the winning side, ranging from the hundreds to thousands of dollars. Participants and spectators would also place side-bets on the fight. The dog fight would last until the death or surrender of the losing dog. At the end of the fight, the losing dog was sometimes put to death by drowning, hanging, gunshot, electrocution, or another method.

The indictment also alleges that the defendants participated in dog fights at locations other than the property in Smithfield. For these events, various members of "Bad Newz Kennels" would travel to other parts of Virginia and across state lines to participate in dog fights at other venues. The indictment alleges that the defendants and the "Bad Newz Kennels" dogs participated in dog fights in North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, New Jersey, and elsewhere in Virginia.

The indictment also includes allegations about the defendants "testing" the pit bulls in their inventory, to determine if particular dogs were good fighters. Sometimes, the dogs deemed not to be good fighters were be put to death. In the summer of 2002, at various times, Peace, Phillips, Taylor, and Vick performed "testing" sessions at the property in Smithfield. Following some of these sessions, the dogs that did not perform well were put to death by Peace, Phillips, or Taylor. Further, in April 2007, an additional "testing" session was performed by Peace, Phillips, and Vick. Following that session, the indictment alleges that approximately eight dogs were put to death by hanging, drowning, and/or slamming at least one dog's body to the ground.

The investigation has been a cooperative effort involving, among other agencies, the United States Department of Agriculture, Office of Inspector General; Virginia State Police; and the Surry County Sheriff's Office. Assistant United States Attorneys Michael Gill and Brian Whisler are prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States. The federal investigation into the defendants' criminal conduct is continuing.

Criminal indictments are only charges and not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed to be innocent until and unless proven guilty.

more to come...

Seriously, if I had like 72 hrs to live & I knew it I would spend the first 24 w/ my wife & then tell here baby I just have to do something. She is a huge animal rights person as well & I am sure would be understanding. The next 48 hours would be hunting season for me on these heartless f.cks w/ some torture thrown in for good measure where possible.

Sec, is it possible in those 48 hrs you could nip a few of those neocons? Im with you here Sec i doubt if he gets any time at all and if he does it will be minimal. He is a NFL boy who does what the league tells him to do just like Kobe is for the NBA. Now if you fix games behind the leagues back lets say like a guy named Pete Rose you go to jail and you also get banned for life with no sign of ever being parole by the league. The rapist got a slap on the wrist and so will this punk. That is the pull these guys have when they work for the league and not behind the leagues back. Just my humble opinion.

The NFL speaks out of both sides of their mouth...

Pac Man Jones is suspended for a year without a conviction. Now, NFL encourages everyone to allow the judicial system to work before placing responsibility on Vick.

Pac Man is a thug...but, he is going to have a hell of a lawsuit if he sues NFL for his suspension. Especially if Vick is allowed to play this year.

Wilson, I have been a season ticket holder since day one of the Titans and Pac is a phenomenal talent but is 10 arrests{and counting lol} not enough:shrug: You better check that part about no convictions. They have been talking about tying his current arrests to something in his history. Wish we had him but I doubt he will ever play again, I am sure not for us.
