ripken8 he meant tons to me....Nancy, a good friend of mine, and also our vet had said he'll let you know when it's time, and they were so right. As I said he made four attempts...he would be laying, then he would try to get up, only to end up in a sitting postion. Because he no longer could stand to go to the washroom, I'd hold him up but he'd dig in to walk. I would be behind him like I was wheeling a wheelbarrel holding up his back legs. We would go about 4-5 steps and then was out of breathe....repeated 4 times. I didn't know he was dying....he refused his steak/chicken, had some water, we put him on his couch, it was over, he was barely alive. I will be thankful for the time we had, and thanks very much for your time and thoughts. I'll also be like yourself after 8 years, and you'll probably agree...worth it....take care

tommy6shooter to quote you: Want you to know that in time your hurt will fade but the menory will always remain..and that's a good thing...Well put and thanks, it adds to the healing process.

Speaking to a friend of mine last night, as she said some people just don't know the feeling that you're going thru... the pain and sorrow because it's like losing a child, they're members of the family. Allison and her husband Donald, have been thru this many times as they rescue dogs. They have went and still go beyond the call of duty. Once again, thanks everybody for your time and thoughts....we appreciate it.

Hang in there Jake. Had to take my bulldog (Pete), named after the Purdue mascot, to the vet monday. Having trouble breathing. Vet put him on breathing pills and steroids. He also has atheritis in his hips. Seems to be doing better. This hot weather is hard on him. He is now 7.5 years old and the life expectancy is only 8-10 yrs. Thought of you when my wife called me at work monday morning and told me how bad Pete was feeling. Some people don't understand the pain or the pleasure that these pets bring. Hang in there my friend and hopefully the hurting will ease. Cherish the good times spent with Jakey. God Bless

PS Great poem

boilermaker it's getting better. As you might have read, posting this has really helped me. Thought I was going to make it thru yesterday with no tears, but the replies here got to me....great bunch of people. Hope things work out for Pete and yourselves, I'll have my :mj09:. There was a time when Jakey was having a hard time, like he was always stiff. I gave him what I was taking, Glucosamine 500 & Chrondroitin 400, gave him 3 pills a day, along with 500 mg Vitamin C, and Flax Seed Oil mixed in his food with yogurt or low fat cottage cheese. I noticed a real difference after about 5-6 weeks of the Glucosamine/Chrondroitin & C. You're right about some people not understanding, but, what can we do. Best to you and thanks, I really appreciate it. My thoughts will be with Pete and your family that's for sure. Later
