Excellent season you are having sir, I'm jealous. Not to be a smart ass or anything like that, but can I ask why you like Tampa today? I like to learn.

I know Snell is above average and pitching well recently, he did take the loss last time he pitched against the Yankees, though. Recently he has been much better than that outing. My concern is the Yankees are still the best hitting team in the league against LHP and it's by a good margin. My experience is good pitching beats good hitting so I like y our play based on that, but in this case it's REALLY good hitting.

I do not base my picks on individual stats completely unless there are some glaring stats that dictate one way or another. Such as this

Blake Snell (13-5) ERA: 2.18 on the season.
Masahiro Tanaka (9-3) ERA: 4.17 on the season.

I am a team stats guy by and large. That said:
1. Tampa Bay is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games on the road.
2. Tampa Bay is 7-2 ATS in its last 9 games when playing the NY Yankees.
3. Tampa Bay is 7-2 SU in its last 9 games when playing the NY Yankees.

What has served me well is to consider team stats over the last five to 10 games.
Pitching, however I look at the long haul since a pitcher is what he is despite what he may have done the last 2 or 3 starts. For example the Red Sox newest pitcher, Nathan Eovaldi, threw two shutouts his first two games for my Sox and everyone was so excited about him but I knew he would return to what he really is and he did in his last two starts.
I do have an exact formula that takes into consideration all of the above and more but I do not like to reveal that formula.

One thing to keep in mind is that this games is played by humans and, that said, everything I just wrote about could be useless on any given day.

Although the Cubs are struggling to score runs, The team fares extremely well at home. At the same time, Cincinnati has been abysmal on the road, recently. As good as DeSclafani has been for the visitors in recent weeks, Hamels has been even better since arriving in Chicago.
