i could probably get some real enjoyment out of doing something like that right about now....LOL, but ummmmmm....who is he?
Hoops, let me share a story with you. I grew up a junior golfer in the suburbs of LA. I was older than Tiger, but we played in all the same tournaments. Of course he was amazing and was in the LA Times once a week from the time he was 4. Every junior golfer hated him with every ounce of their being -- not because they were jealous, but because he and his father were so arrogant and obnoxious. I always said that if Tiger ever winds up dead, the assassin will be someone he played in junior golf. Anyway, his dad played the LA Times like a piano. Every single week there was a Tiger Update. It was sick. His dad pimped him around like Tiger was side-show and the LA Times followed them around. Right or wrong, like Tiger or not, his dad totally played the LA Times perfectly. The media bandwagon began when Tiger was 5 and hasn't slowed down yet. Even though he was absolutey hated and loathed by his peers, the Times made Tiger out to be a savior, and the public bought it.
In the late 80s, there was a story about this phenom girl tennis player in LA who was going to take over the world of tennis. Venus Williams was going to change the face of tennis. The LA Times wanted to idolize her as they did with Tiger. Richard Williams did a story in which he claimed that he pulled the girls out of school because the school was racist. The Times tried to compare Venus to Tiger and Richard Williams claimed that Tiger wasn't "really black" and the two shouldn't be compared. He also claimed that girls practiced in Compton with gang bullets "whizzing by the girls' heads." He claimed the he hired gang members to watch over the girls and protect them. The LA Times disputed these claims in their article. When the article came out, Richard Williams accused the Times of being a racist paper trying to make him look bad. He refused to ever grant the paper another interview. The same exact area where Tiger became The Man is racist to the Williams. The school is racist, the junior tournaments are racist (which is why they girls didn't play junior tournaments), the newspaper is racist. See the trend?
Now, the same paper that turned Tiger Woods into an idol at age 5 is suddenly a racist paper out to get black people. Richard Williams has been doing this for years. Don't be shocked. It's disgusting.

Bonovox- great post Hoops-I could'nt agree with you more. It's disgusting how he only uses the race card when things are'nt going his way. If everyone is so racist against them how are they the number one attraction at tournaments along with their huge endorsement deals. I could go on and on about this but it's a waste of my time to even acknowledge his comments. He is an idiot, plain and simple.
I admire Richard Williams,it was said that you must play junior tennis to have a chance at the tour,he has proved that to be incorrect,it was said in 93 that these girls would never make the top 10,it was said in 97 that these girls need a real coach,that is also been proven wrong as the sisters are the 2 best players in the world.

It's pretty sad to hear this talk...People will remember the not the success of his daughters,But his racist remarks.The girls are role models for young & old,He should sit back and keep out of sight.....
The words can cut and make people sad. All have opinions. I hope they can stay that way with no hate. Dad can step aside. It seems these kids can win vs the best. Just hard for dads some times to know when to sit down As for tiger he is very very good. Before being named best ever. He has about 10 to 12 years of work to do. According to Mr. HateMe I must assume that any self respecting black person does not ASSOCIATE WITH WHITE PEOPLE. When does acknowleging your heritage become an admission of something vile? I used to be interested in civil rights but I got over it after being called a 'blue eyed devil' too many times. It's hopeless. It's very simple now. All whites are racists and all blacks are victims. Mr. Jack E. White wrote an article in Time magazine where he calculates reparations at $24 TRILLION dollars. That's roughly $650,000 due each black person in the US and approximately $110,000 due from every white person. That would cost my little family of four $440,000, my parents $220,000, my brothers, sisters and their children another $2,090,000 making our family's immediate debt a cool $2.75 Million. Well guess what? We don't have it!!
I have given up on race relations. That makes me a racist according to the popular wisdom and I'm very comfortable with that, thank you very much. I just wish I could be as succesful a whore as Michael Jordan.

What Richard Williams does,as a coach is to get a psychological advantage,their is not a more psychogical sport than tennis,the goal is to win titles for the family period,Richard is not worried about political correctness or popularity,but he is an amazing motivater,the controversy adds to the sport.

I can not believe that this is still going on. Who cares what Richard Williams says.
Like it or not there is racism in every city of every country in this world from all races. In this country there are just as many people racist against blacks as there are people racist against whites, hispanic, asian, etc.
What I don't like is the fact that some people always try to use their minority status to their advantage whenever it suits them.
I was born in Alabama from spanish parents and I have never once used the fact that I am hispanic to gain something (college, garduate school, med school). Don't think I have'nt been called names since I was little growing up here in the 70's. But they don't bother me because I rose above it. Also, I never checked the hispanic box on forms because I don't think that way. You should'nt need that to succeed, stay focused and work hard and you will do well no matter what race you are. The fact that people always cry that I did'nt get the job b/c I'm black or jewish or hispanic most of the time is wrong. Now if you have been discriminated against I feel for you. However, in most cases these days I feel people are using the fact that they are a minority the wrong way. It would be like the next time I apply for a new position or don't get my way i cry that the hospital is racist against me because I'm hispanic. Come on. If you cry out everytime you don't get your way, people won't believe you when you are telling the truth. Thats is now whats happened in our society. A few more things I want to point out.
First calling Jordan a whore because he perfected the art of using his popularity to become this powerful, wealthy man that is more than able to supply for his family for generations to come is ridiculous. Anyone of any race with that opportunity would take it. Anyone who says they would'nt is a liar.
Second, Richard Williams is their coach and father period. His job is to improve their tennis game and be the best father to the sisters as possible, which includes the proper advice. He plainly is more interested in shooting his mouth off whenever he gets a chance crying racism every other day. What he should be doing is let Venus and Serena do their talking on the court with victories. They are extremely talented and will be successful for a long time. Their father can only hurt them with the publicity he gives them. Maybe they are'nt liked, but does race has something to do with it? maybe or maybe not. I think less racism, more jealousy, which would be the same no matter what color they were.
Also,Tennis is not psychological in the sense your making it out to be. I know b/c I played tennis all my life as a junior on the state, southern, and national level. I also played International tourneys and collegiate tennis when we finished in top 10 nationally 3 years in a row. I know what I'm talking about. Having their father talk crap to the media does'nt help their games, menatlly or physically.
Unlike team tennis, the pro circuit is a time for individual achievement. They say it's tough to play each other, thats crap. I played all my life against best friends and my brother in practice and tourneys. Not once did it change things. Once you get on the court it's a battle. Then after the match you go back to normal. My father talking crap never helped my mental game nor did crazy tennis parents that I've experienced during my life help my opponents. I never got "psyched" out by an opponents parent. Please spare me that garbage.
Adds controversy to the sport? Sorry but I disagree. All it's doing is making people dislike him and his daughters. If he really wants to help them, be the silent man who COACHES TENNIS and gives them advice. Thats it. I'm tired of typing maybe more later

Richard Williams is a virus that needs to be eradicated. Tiger was smart enough to tell big Earl to step back once Tiger became an adult. Venus and Serena arent babies anymore and should tell dad to keep his unintelligent trap closed and let them handle their own affairs.

Mr.Williams and Earls situation is totally diffrent,Richard is the girls coach and the reason for their success,Earl doesnt know enough about golf to be Tigers coach,Earl needs to keep his mouth shut about Mr.Williams.
Some of Mr.Williams comments make certain people feel uneasy,that is not Richards fault,Serena,Venus,and Richard are a package and the tennis community needs to deal with that,if they dont like it tough.

If not, on what do you base your conclusions about my state? What constitutes a racial slur? Can racial slurs only be directed towards minorities?
