MIAMI (AP) - Former NFL rushing champion Ricky Williams tested positive again for marijuana last month, delaying his return to the league until at least September, a person familiar with the case said Friday.

Williams sought to end a one-year drug suspension last month when he asked to rejoin the Miami Dolphins. But following the positive drug test, clinicians in the program advised NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to delay reinstatement, the person close to the case said.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because of the confidential nature of the testing program.

The Dolphins and the NFL declined comment. Before Williams' latest setback, new Miami coach Cam Cameron repeatedly declined to say whether he would welcome Williams back.

Leigh Steinberg, Williams' agent, did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment.

Williams, who turns 30 on May 21, was suspended in April 2006 by the NFL after violating the league's drug policy for the fourth time. He played last year in the Canadian Football League, then taught yoga in California.

Last month, Steinberg quoted Williams as saying his interest in eastern philosophy had overcome his desire for mind-altering substances.

Williams won the 1998 Heisman Trophy at Texas and the 2002 NFL rushing championship with the Dolphins, but he has played only 12 games since 2003. Last season with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL, he rushed for 526 yards in 109 carries but missed two months with a broken arm.

Saw the 60 mins piece on pot head a couple years ago.

I wouldn't have a problem with the fried fuk if he was only hurting himself. Dope has a number of kids and no money.

Fuk him and his beliefs. Should have been stoned enough not to breed.

My only hope is that he has the decency to keep a decent life ins policy and the balls to kill himself so he can meet whatever maker he's so big on.

I love how this will make him look like a criminal (when he is really not)... and the whole media will spit it out that way.

Lets look at it from the "Old School" point of view just for agruement sake..not saying it can't be spun as crimminal ...just can't see why anyone within a demogrpic of say 40 to nearly 65 would consider pot smoking criminal..

The above age demograpic certainly smoked up our fair share of pot in the day..The day also came that an adult attitude had to be taken in order to take a serious and professional approach to our working careers..

When employers starting random drug testing there was and still is a choice to be made by those who still wish to be employed by that company..Stop smoking pot and keep your job..Don't stop smoking pot and persue another employer who chooses not to screen for pot..or become self-employed and smoke pot and hire pot smokers if you care to..then your performance..your employees performace and your companies performace and standing in the community is in your management and control.

It never a safe thing to do when someone speaks for a certain age demograpic..but I feel confident in saying as a member of this age demograpic..."Ricky smoke up every nice fat 'Red Bud' you can get in the bowl..really could care less. But please..stop insulting all us former pot heads with these kind of statements.

"I am an honest, God-fearing man who is intensely dedicated to being the best person I can be on and off the football field. There is no need to smear my name or to defame my character for the sake of news. When the time is right, God willing, I will be back on the field scoring touchdowns for whatever team is fortunate enough to believe in me."

Yea when you decide to stop getting a buzz on..

"Falling off the wagon is part of rehab," a source said. "Based on the medical evidence in Ricky's case, the doctors say it's too early to come back. He had the positive test last month. Remember, he's been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder -- that's a real disease and a good percentage of those folks self-medicate with substances like marijuana, often at the moment they are about to have a high level of social interaction."

The NFL suspended Williams in April 2006 after he violated the league's drug policy for the fourth time. That failed test apparently involved a substance other than marijuana and may have been related to his interest in holistic medicine.

Williams' previous positive drug tests were for marijuana, which he acknowledged using.

Last year Williams played in the Canadian Football League, then taught yoga in California. Steinberg recently quoted Williams as saying his interest in Eastern philosophy had overcome his desire for mind-altering substances.

Williams still owes the Dolphins $8.6 million for breaching his contract when he sat out the 2004 season, but they've given no signal they want him back.

Williams won the 1998 Heisman Trophy at Texas and the 2002 NFL rushing title with the Dolphins. Last season with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL, he rushed for 526 yards in 109 carries but missed two months with a broken arm.

"I appreciate all the support I have received from my fans," Williams added in his statement, "and I assure all others that I am strong, clean, and happily preparing myself for a triumphant return to the NFL."

Maybe I am all wet here and if I am I would welcome the comments from those who like I tried to smoke up Peru and dabbled in mushrooms and the like with its relation and interest in holistic medicine.
When one becomes "aware" there is certainly a view of life and our being that transpirers..With this awareness comes a desire to learn more..certainly that urge to learn more about Eastern philosophy, yoga, transindental[sp?] meditation. What I never personally experienced nor ever saw first hand in my interaction with others with these same interest and a desire to understand was an addiction to pot and or mushrooms.Did getting stoned and meditating in the candle lit room or inside the pyriamids erected around various loactions in communities all across the USA suddendly become more important than paying the electric bill on time..Sure it did but it damn sure didn't cause me or the hundreds of others I shared these same interests and practices with to renege on a 8.6 million dollar debt.

"Failing off the wagon."..as an alcoholic I read this statement from an unkown source brought up in the report from Chris Mortensen and I cringe.

This unkown source wants me to equate a pot heads troubles to "Failing of the wagon"?...This "spin doctor":nono: would have us believe in Ricky's defense that Ricky has once again put his life in a living hell that ONLY those addicted[and affected by those] to real addictive drugs like alcohol, herion, cocaine experience when we slip into the realm of a world that is a living NIGHTMARE..

*** I will add to this later..2 guys standing around making money who I need to put to work..I welcome all comments on my contribution to this topic as I have related to now
