Kind of sad to hear of his passing. He used to be the pro at a nice muni we often play here in NE Ohio and have always had great respect for him. He's one of the guys that broke the color barrier on the PGA tour and it's unbelievable the shit he had to go through as a black golfer from the south. It was small handful of guys like Charlie that paved the road for Tiger and others.

Yes... He could hold court for an hour or so at a time up at Sleepy Hollow. What impressed me most about him is that after all he had been through he never seemed to hold a grudge. Awesome guy...:0008

During his induction ceremony, Sifford told of his first meeting with Palmer.

They were playing in the 1955 Canadian Open and Sifford opened with a 63 to lead Palmer by one shot.

He recalled Palmer standing in front of the scoreboard saying, "Charlie Sifford?

How the hell did he shoot 63?"

"I'm standing right behind him," Sifford said.

"I said, 'The same damn way you shot 64.' That's how we met."
