I am ashamed to say that the quarterback of my teams future was traded away today to the San Francisco 49ers for this years 1st and 65th picks in the draft. Another questionable move my a city that seems to be home to every stupid tream in the nation. Not only do the Padres trade away some of the best prospects in the country (Oliver Perez, Jason Bay for an aging Giles), the Chargers have followed in their footsteps and kept a QB whose 5'11" frame will keep him solid until he becomes the next Flutie in 4 years.

What did they get from the trade last year with the Giants and Manning? Did they give up picks or get picks?

no they DEF got picks...thats why they have 2 1st round picks in the draft this year...they traded Manning and nothing Else for Rivers, this years 1st round pick, and a couple other round picks...But many, including myself, beleive the Chargers got the best out of it...

vyrus, guess i am plumb ignorant(no response here please) i did not realize sd would get hit with the signing bonus..... obviously not a fan of sd, but you guys can get a stud at the #1 or you will find a trade partner imo. not all bad, but rivers probably can be better than brees if he works at it.

you can have a very good wr at the #1 but it will cost. i don't see how this is so bad as the offense has no real #1 rec outside of gates. he happens to be a te and grumpy over contract. i see a real threat at rec dropped in your lap, but that is just me.

Chargers deal quarterback Rivers to San Francisco
The San Diego Tribune
April 1, 2005

San Diego, Ca - The number one pick is no longer the concern of the San Francisco 49ers. In a draft that had many experts believing that the 49ers would keep their pick due to a lack of willing trade partners, late Thursday night saw both sides agree on a deal. The trade will send the No. 1 and No. 65 pick, as well as an undisclosed option, to San Diego in return for second-year quarterback Philip Rivers. The deal will be officially announced at a press conference on Saturday afternoon.
