I dunno, Freeze.......that last one could be one of the dumbest things I've ever read here at MJ's

So, $8.00 an hour makes you happy? Good for you! The thing is, your $16,000 is not the same as a person making $16,000 from working. That would equate to a person making about $25,000 a year, because they have to pay taxes.

I don't see too many people cranking out $25K a year, and living large!

More power to you.........

"extreme liberals"????

what "extreme" things have i espoused in this forum?

realizing that the current administration is corrupt?

What are you.......in grade school? What administration ISN'T???

we're fighting a war that the rest of the world (and like it or not it matters) thinks is WRONG!?

If that were true......the US would be the only people over there fighting these people.

........and just because someone thinks it's "wrong", it don't make it so. All the arguments that you use, are the same tired ones you are rebuting, and visa versa with the ones who don't agree with you.

This shit is non-winable. Let's talk sports!

i can afford a car
a nice apartment
i eat out about every meal
i take my girlfriend out at least twice a week
i can buy things for her and others
i go to games
i have a TV and cable
i have a computer
i have health insurance
i have to spend about 2 grand on books for school
i gamble
i go on vacations
etc.etc

this "poverty" level is ridiculous IMO...i have more enough than i could ever need on 16,000 and a guy who makes 300$/week (net) can live off this.....(the tax rate is only about 5% after deductions so this does equate to 8$/hour)

and i certainly could make it for less $$....

seems like a pretty nice life to me!!!! ask 99.99% of the people in Africa or the Middle East if they have it easier....YET THAT IS THE US POVERTY LEVEL?????

Are you Kidding me???

Then why are you in school? Just get a job at Jiffy Lube, and live "happily ever after"!

You know what? I see homeless people now and then, too. That make NOTHING and are getting by! Talk about frugal!

(Those fuhkers don't pay yaxes, either;) )

anyone can do this....if not, they can live a good and decent life making 15 grand per year....

anyone who says otherwise, can fit under the label elitist IMO

Doc do I understand you are just haveing 16 grand given to you tax free. And you live where? At home, or share a apartment. A nice apartment where I live would eat the first 6000 bucks out of that 16000. Then to heat and cool it would take another 1500 a year. Insurance and gas for a Auto. another 1200. Who pays your health insurance? Mind is 6000 a year. So you see by 16000 im just about broke. So you have some gimmies some place.

1 grand on health ins. (gonna be less for me at 26)
3 grand on car
leaves me 6 to work with....at 500/month about 100 goes to bills

gives me 100 a week

Most people would like to get married, provide for their children....16k isn't going to cut it for most urban/suburban areas of the country. That's right near welfare level in NY.

Might be a good and decent living for a younger person with no responsibilites and hardly any bills, but for most in the real world that just doesn't work.

"i have more enough than i could ever need on 16,000 and a guy who makes 300$/week (net) can live off this."

Yeah, tell that to a majority of people over the age of 26.

well hey thats me....

life costs $$....other ways of cutting back....can live in cheaper albeit more dangerous/less nice part of town.....eat out a lot less....if married own one car....etc. etc.

point is, if you are on welfare and not working, i dont think you should expect fine dining every night....

but if you want to pursue American dream, you can either go get education or work your way up the ladder with a little elbow grease....nothing wrong with that...
