I only got into this guy about 3 years ago. A bit of a freak (wears a mask and a KFC bucket on his head) but MAN!...can he ever play guitar. I'd say he's hands-down better than Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Snowy White, Trey Gunn or Shawn Lane, just to name a few contemporaries. He actually toured with Guns n' Roses a few years ago, but his best stuff is his solo work, and he's produced a ton of it. If you like instrumentals (his stuff is almost entirely instrumentals) then check out his stuff.

Some recommended tracks:

--Mrs. Beasley (very bluesy; reminiscent of David Gilmour's work; one of my favorite all-time instrumentals, and I've currently got a folder on my hard drive with 663 instrumentals in it)

--Sea of Expanding Shapes

--Phantom Lights

--911

--anything off of the disc Cobra Strike

--anything off of the disc Cobra Strike II; I especially like Poison Wind & Beware of the Holding Funnel

--anything off of the disc Colma

--Soothsayer

--anything off of the disc Electric Tears

--Nottingham Lace

--Binge and Grab

--Jordan (the 3:55 version)

--anything off of Population Override

--Warcraft

I'm curious what others think of his work.
I think the guy is sensational. Two other favorite guitarists of mine, though I like many, are Jimi Hendrix and the aforementioned David Gilmour (from Pink Floyd).

Let me know what you think.
If you've never heard him then try some of the ones that I listed above. Most of his work is very good, and he covers all styles, from the totally raunchy (check out the disc Cuckoo Clocks of Hell) to the more mellow and bluesy (discs Colma, Electric Tears, Population Override, etc.).

saw him with GNR about two years ago on the 5th or 6th chinese democracy tour. can't remember which one they are up to know without ever releasing the album. He was fine, did a cool star wars solo. But I really missed slash.

I'm not a guitar head, but he was good. Not sure if that helps.

Glad to see that at least a couple of people have heard of him.
Fairly positive responses, I think.

Bumping up in case I can get some more action.

The only thing that I love more than my rock n' roll is, maybe, my ganja and (certainly) my parents.

Sports wagering maybe in 4th.

For a real trip check out the Melvins track The Anti-Vermin Seed off the disc Hostile Ambient Takeover.
Clocks in at 15:51 and if you like, say, Floyd's Echoes or Tool's Third Eye then I think you'll dig it.
Not for the faint of heart.

I got tons of 'em.
Let's hear from some rock n' roll fans out there.

OK ... now you're talkin'. I've been a huge Melvins fan ever since the beginning. I got to see them on the H.A.T. tour with Isis opening for them in a 750 capacity club. Totally insane show!

I'm also huge into Fantomas, Tomahawk ... all the Mike Patton stuff really ... and of course Jesus Lizard (and David Yow's new band Qui).

You should check out Scratch Acid and Big Black if you don't know them. They're from the 80's but still blow away anything out there today.
I've never been much into Buckethead ... I like what I've heard but not enough to seek out more of his stuff. Maybe I'll try again.

wow man...that MUST have been a good show.
I'm into Isis, too--think I have all their stuff, including the latest In the Absence of Truth.

I'll have to check out those last two you mentioned (Scratch Acid & Big Black). I've got a bunch of tracks by the Fantomas, Jesus Lizard (just a couple actually...have to seek more), and Tomahawk.
Never head of Qui either.

I'm always into getting some good music tips.
Have a massive collection but what's available seems endless so I'm certainly not getting bored with persuing more. Lots of good stuff out there. My 40 gig hard drive is packed--75% of that is tunes.

LOVE IT!!!

For a real wake-up call to the cranium, try Mondo Generator's Simple Exploding Man, from the disc Cocaine Rodeo.

Keep 'em comin'.

I haven't had me a good downloading session for several months now (dang baseball has taken up MOST of my time).
I'm also into the older stuff, too. Really everything from the early Beatles and Dylan to present. e.g. recently got into the Butterfield Blues Band, mostly due to my interest in guitarist Mike Bloomfield's work.

Live at the Oakland Colliseum 1977.
Got that one.
With all seriousness--I probably have one of the larger Pink Floyd collections ON THE PLANET.
Not complete, I'm sure, but I've even got the 18-disc set A Tree Full of Secrets (save disc #18 that has pictures and videos).
Always looking for more, if it exists, as Floyd is my favorite.

"wolfgangsvault" is a website?

I'll have to check it out.

Like Jeff Beck, too, he's just not my favorite ex-Yardbird (still love my Zeppelin...maybe not as much as in teenage years but they were my fave back then).

Thanks for sharing.

Jeez I need sleep...Been up for about 30 hours, now, and the Sunday action begins in about 7 hours...

I have 8 Jeff Beck tracks currently on my hard drive. A bunch of others elsewhere (only keep the faves on the HD).

Guess these would be my favorite Jeff Beck tunes.
If I'm missing something crucial here then let me know; my Beck collection is far from complete (and I don't care for Rod Stewart):

Beck's Bolero
You Know What I mean
Freeway Jam
'Cause we've ended as lovers (track 99 of Guitar Player's top 100 greatest guitar solos)
Two Rivers
Goodbye Pork Pie Hat
Stand on It (w/Stevie Ray Vaughan)
Truth Ola (with the Steve Morse band)

Staying on the instrumental theme, for now, here's a couple more I recommend...

For something mellower and kinda psychedelic check out the Amboy Dukes Below the Belt, clocks in at 7:03. Off the disc Call of the Wild.

If you like the heavier stuff like the Melvins, or Tool then check out Level Five by King Crimson. Clocks in at 7:17, off the disc The Power to Believe.

I'm going to keep this going at least until somebody checks out Buckethead's Mrs. Beasley and tells me what they think.

Rock n' Roll!
