Helton leaves game with strained right hamstring

July 13, 2001

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton left Thursday night's game against the Texas Rangers in the fourth inning with a strained right hamstring.

Manager Buddy Bell said Helton could miss the next few games.

``We'll know better tomorrow,'' Bell said. ``He won't play for probably the next few days.''

Helton came up lame as a rounded first base after a single. Helton convinced team medical personnel he could continue, but he had trouble running to second on teammate Cliff Brumbaugh's RBI single. He was removed from the game when Greg Norton came in as a pinch runner.

The starting National League All-Star first baseman began the night hitting .314 with 26 homers and 84 RBIs.
