from T. Harding at official site:
Santos, 0-3 with an 8.27 ERA in 18 relief appearances since being called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs at the end of July, started in seven of his 33 appearances with the Detroit Tigers last season. He was 2-2 with a 3.30 ERA in a starting role. Before being promoted to the Rockies, Santos started all 21 of his games at Colorado Springs and went 4-9 with a 5.72 ERA.
Santos, who has given up some soft hits but has no defense for 17 walks in 16 1/3 innings with the Rockies, said there is no point in looking at Saturday's start as an audition for future starting chances.
"Right now, I'm just thinking about this start, and whatever happens after that happens -- it's Hurdle's decision, anyway," Santos said.
from sportsnetwork preview:
Lifetime, Perez is 2-0 versus Colorado. He has faced the Rockies three times in 2002 and is 2-0 with two complete games and a 2.25 earned run average.
Victor Santos counters for the hosts. Mike Hampton was originally slated to take the ball today, but the lefthander is suffering from a sprained ligament in his right foot and is not expected to return until September 20.
As a result, Santos will make his first start of the year and just the eighth of his career. The righthander last toed the slate on Tuesday, when he tossed 1 1/3 shutout innings against the Houston Astros. The outing marked the first time in four tries that he did not surrender a run.
This will be the 25-year-old hurler's first career outing versus Los Angeles. In 21 starts for Triple-A Colorado Spring this season, Santos was 4-9 with a 5.72 ERA.
Colorado is 43-30 on the season at home, including 2-0 on a current 10-game stand, while the Dodgers are 1-4 on a seven-game road trip and 43-33 in 2002 as the guest.
Los Angeles leads the season series by a 10-5 margin and is 30-16 in this matchup since the start of the 2000 campaign. These teams have split eight meetings in Denver this year.
