Roddick article

I don't understand why we don't see more of this. It seems like the only athletes that get really excited about the Olympics are the ones that aren't in the major sports making tons of money. Some of the basketball players act like it's a hassle. I think it would be more important to me to represent my country than win a championship in a single league regardless of pay. I know I am saying this as someone who does not make millions every year playing a sport, but I can't imagine a bigger honor than representing your country in competition. Look how big of an honor the Ryder Cup is. There's not a golfer in the world that doesn't want to be on those teams.

p.s. My views here are not the Roddick doesn't make a ton of money, but he certainly doesn't make as much as Shaq or Kobe.

Wasn't there a big fuss just in the last few years of some guys saying they wouldn't play anymore unless they got paid for it?

I liked it better when the "amatures" played in the Olympics. Probably the biggest game ever played was when a bunch of American kids beat the mighty Russians in hockey. We will never know that type of excitement again as our pros win medal after medal. Just my opinion but it is refreshing to see someone say they want to play.
