I kind of feel like Tech has a Ron Zook with Tommy Tuberville. An excellant recruiter but can't coach against the big boys. How Tubs went undefeated is something I will never understand. The guy has no emotion and because of that neither do his players.
I know some will say I'm crazy but Mack Brown is the king of these guys. He gets by because he has the best or one of the best recruiting classes every year.(Saying that, he has the top one because he is the best recruiter) The one year he won it he had the best player in college football who all the other players followed. Give Mack a 15-20 recruiting class and he would be toast.
You have the coaches that can recruit and win because of it and sometimes win it all because they have that one special player, you have the coaches that can both recruit and coach the players up and then you have the coaches that just flat out can coach their players up but aren't good recruiters. I always thought I would want top recruiting classes but after having Tuberville for 2 years I'm starting to think I like the Leach years when he didn't care about recruiting but you knew his teams would come to play.
I'm guessing Illini fans feel the same way as I do right now about my program.
good--
