Siegfried and Roy -Las Vegas

Roy HORN, who turned 59 Friday, was taken to University Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, said hospital spokeswoman Cheryl Persinger.
Firefighters were called to the hotel-casino about 8:20 p.m. and found Horn had been ?attacked at the throat? by a tiger during a performance, said Clark County Fire spokesman Bob Leinbach.
?They treated him for massive blood loss, treated him for breathing trouble,? Leinbach said, adding that on the way to the hospital, Roy was able to talk with the ambulance staff.
MGM Mirage spokesman Alan Feldman said Horn received a serious injury to the left side of his neck. Horn underwent surgery late Friday, Feldman said.
?He is expected to survive the surgery, but the full extent of his injuries may not be known for a couple of days,? Feldman said.

The dark-haired member of the flamboyant duo, Horn appeared alone onstage with a white tiger about 45 minutes into the 7:30 performance, said audience member Andy Cushman, a 23-year-old reporter from Haddon Township, N.J.
Horn told the audience the tiger was 9 years old and was making his first appearance in the show. Feldman that statement was part of the magicians? act.
Moments later, the tiger lunged at Horn, who tried beating the tiger off with a microphone, Cushman said.
?The tiger went for his neck, then drug him offstage,? he said. ?He looked like a rag doll.?
Horn?s partner, Siegfried Fischbacher, later appeared on stage visibly upset and said the performance was canceled, Cushman said.
The German-born pair have been a staple on the Las Vegas Strip for more than 30 years, performing six shows a week, 44 weeks per year.
Their fantastical show features dozens of animals, including lions, tigers and elephants.
Hotel officials said the show has been canceled indefinitely. The tiger involved in the attack was quarantined at the hotel, officials said.

I've seen the show when I was there a few years back......we sat in the front row and my wife said "do you think they can just run away".....I sure hope Roy survives this attack......It truly is an incredible show but I guess those tigers are wild and belong somewhere else rather than a stage.........:yup

Yeh I am sure that he hand raised that one as he does all the white tigers. I have seen the show several times.

You just never know when that killer instinct is going to set in and the tiger is going to have a flashback to strike.

Hope ROY comes out OK. A incisor to the neck sounds serious.

fletcher or Vegas people ? any news on this from Vegas ?

"the tiger lunged at Horn, who tried beating the tiger off with a microphone"

Maybe the tiger would not have been so pissed if he would have used his hand?

yes i do have a update the first sergury was at about 1130pm done at 1248 am sat then taken to a room he had to be revived during first sergury then he had a stroke early sat morning in the other room was rused in for a 2nd operation to release pressure on his brain and was said to be in bad shape but was able to speak very little but some sat afternoon it will just be a wait and see till they find out what it has done to him anything could happen in the next 3 days the dr's said i really took its toll on him he lost a great deal of blood. that is all anyone really knows and you will hear lot of things i will tell you when things are real and if anything changes. if the chain or lease in his hand was not knocked out he would of been able to get it all back under control but could not get the lease and that is how he got his arm grabbed he had no choice but to use the mic and yes it did make matters worse but you have to do what you have to do he uses body angles to contol the animals and he lost the angle and all hell broke loose. just something that was a freak thing and nothing will be done to the animal he is back in his home spot it was just a break down of things, everytime out there is a risk but they are the best at what they do and a tiger is always going to be wild no matter how it is brought up and it was spoked and reacted how it would act in the wild.

I guess the Mirage people have told the 200+ employees of the show, they should look for work! A spokesman for S&R said the show is done.

rumor not quite right they held a meeting yesterday say they would let them know what is going on and they might have to think about working in different carees then they are in now, but they really do not know but all people if it did happen would be placed or tried to anyway in another job within the company. there will be lot of twisted things as i said not saing yours was yzz but was not the whole story just a part of it but show is not over , it is to early to know and they have been training other S&R to take their place down the line to keep the show going and they would supervise it not be the ones in it. but it has not been cut it will take afew days to figure out what will be done but they did have a meeting because it is a lot of people but they will not be kicked out on the street a few if it happens i am sure won't get placed but they will do everything they can to place these people somewhere to earn a livining and pay the bills. mirage pr people are not stupid letting 192 people go would be very bad pr and unions would be all over them so trust me they will try to place these people at same pay some where.

"The doctors are cautiously optimistic,? Yuman said. ?The doctors are telling us that the more time that passes, the better we are. Every day that passes we are going to be in better shape.?
Horn, 59, was heavily sedated but able to respond to voices and touch, MGM Mirage Resort chief executive Bobby Baldwin said.
?We are guarded, optimistic,? Baldwin said late Saturday night outside the hospital. ?We are pleased the news isn?t worse than it is.?
It was halfway during a Friday night performance at The Mirage hotel-casino that Horn appeared alone on stage with a 7-year-old, 600-pound white tiger named Montecore.
Horn told the tiger to lie down. When it refused, Horn tapped the cat on the nose with a microphone to get its attention. The animal grabbed at Horn?s arm, causing the entertainer to stumble.
The tiger then lunged at Horn, who tried to beat the animal away with the microphone. Audience members said the tiger dragged Horn off the stage by the neck. The attack barely missed severing Horn?s carotid artery.
Horn and longtime partner Siegfried Fischbacher have been a Las Vegas Strip staple for years, performing their magic show to sold-out crowds. The shows, with their white tigers and lions, are among the best known and most expensive on the Strip.
?For more than four decades, I have had the great privilege of standing at the side of this remarkable man, and I will continue to do so during this very challenging time,? Fischbacher said in a statement Saturday.
Mirage spokesman Alan Feldman said late Saturday the show was closed indefinitely. He said 267 show employees met at the Mirage hotel-casino, where hotel managers encouraged them to find new jobs.
Montecore was quarantined at the hotel, officials said. Feldman said the animal had been used in the show for several years.
Siegfried and Roy signed a lifetime contract with The Mirage in 2001. The German-born pair perform six shows a week, 44 weeks per year and have been onstage in Las Vegas for more than 35 years."

kod where did you get that copy from, because mine came from the sunday lvrj and Feldman said 192 people were told the might need to take other jobs and the tiger was not under quarantined. and it said nothing about Baldwin in the hole 2 page story? just wondering and there was nothing on the show except for now it would not run temp till they could sort out all options, funny how different stories are out there. I will trust the lvrj not the ap. just wondering. but i know it is only 190 some people who are with the show and they were told they would try to place them in other jobs ,they were not told to look for other jobs. that was a question ask at the meeting and they said thats it could be a possabilty some might have to look for other jobs and some would have to look into caree changes with in the resorts owned by the company. just wondering what paper put that story out? thanks. have not read the am lvrj yet wil see what it says today what i wrote was from sundays. either way roy won't be coming back anytime soon but if they can use one of the trained replacements who were being groomed to take over they will after all safety checks are made and cleared because it is a huge money maker for the resort.

I got it off msn news page. I dont think anyone really knows what will happen to the show yet.

It seems unlikely they will allow it again after something like that happens. Roy may not ever be able to do the show again.

Its sad really. Where do people go who have been working with white tigers for years and years. Not much demand for that.

That is all they can say right now at 8 am lots of things are in the works and will take some time next news conf will be at 6 pm tonight roy also had a smile on his face it was reported so he is in much better shape then after the stroke, but dr's still said with all the blood loss there could still be trouble down the road but were very happy with him last night and even more this am.

will keep you updated if anything big happens he was lucky they said though. trained staff and resure were parised in their actions rescure was they in 3 .mins and 40 secs from call and emt's that are trained for the show did a great job also.

roy aslo got across to his partner it was not the tigers fault it was his and he is not upset at his most fav. cat and said he wants to return. but dr's said to early to tell because of so much blood loos it just can cause problems that they don't see yet so it is a waiting game.

A Las Vegas veterinarian reported his theory on why the tiger attacked:

"Tigers are fed a steady diet of raw meat. This tiger decided he wanted a little fruit in his diet."

 :D
