Do not work for any outfit that may cause your death. Sounds real dumb doesn't it. And if it does you should get 1 .5 million give to you? I mean Rush is talking out of his ass. To me there are many heros in this world. None are in the military or FBI, CIA, Fireman, Policeman. Just a young Mom or Dad going to work in the morning so they can pay taxes rase there family. Then get killed in auto accedent on the way to work. Hero? I mean this is just nuts. But look at some of the strange things just said here between us. That's what guys like Rush are about. Whip the Pot up get some hot water going.

Folks in the military get enough pay. Yes there are risks associated with the job, but the pro's outweigh the cons.

You hear about younger guys in the military living on food stamps and what not... Well, every job has the percentage of people that cannot manage their money and has a $750/month car payment with only a $1000/month income. But in the military we can't fire someone for being less savvy with their money and spending it on goodies rather than their 13 kids they had by "accident" Thats crap.

If EVERY young buck out there had the same monetary problems it would be one thing, but it is only the minority 10% you hear about that are in ghettos and what not simply because they CHOOSE not to get themselves out of it.
I would rather see money go into the military to boost housing communities, or daycare facilities, or other recreational facilities than go into the payscale. We make enough to get by and live comfortably. No more, no less. Thats all I wanted. Plenty of other fringe benefits that make it more worthwhile than another job.

Always thought of you as a Conservative. What you expose is a very liberal idea. Give equal to the soldier and the 500K stockbroker. It sounds very nice, unfortunately that is precisely the idea and thoughts that brought about socialism and communism. Think about it but in much graver terms and in different lattitudes.

Capitalism is NOT a FAIR system, it is an equilibrium system. In the same way as democracy is not fair, it's a MAJORITY system.
I agree with the concept that the soldier should be rewarded more than the stockbroker, but what if we mandated that? Trust me, there would be more soldiers than you can shake a stick at and nobody to pay them.

I know your thoughts are brought about by the current situation, but similar trains of thought brought about the Bolsheviks (sp?), Ho Chi Minh, etc. Peopele who have political power take advantage of those precise sentiments and convince chitloads of people that their ideas are "fais" and "correct" and "just", also promise the majority of poorer people a life that is fair and equal to the rest... and you get exactly that. EVERYBODY is poor and with no chance to be a 500K stockbroker, or doctor, technician, entrepeneur... they're simply all the same, peons.

But I definitely understand your thoughts. Bless our troops.

djv i think you read it wrong.....rush does NOT want $$ to be going out like this....just encourages the attitude of "entitlement" that we already have running rampant in this country

I cannot guarantee the accuracy of this, but if my memory is anywhere close, the Oklahoma bombing victims received an average of about $10,000 each. This is unconscionable when compared with WTC victims. Worst thing about the NY payoffs was that in the confusion, many other questionable payouts were made. At one time, they were doling out money to cab drivers to compensate them for the money lost because of the lack of business from the WTC. Of course, many people that were not cabbies at all, or people whose territory didn't include the WTC area got paid. Every once and awhile you read where someone actually gets nailed, usually for claiming a death that never occurred.

I was surprised to see you on this side of the situation. Glad, but surprised.

The most sickening thing I see is a "reservist" that has been double dipping for 5 years complain that they don't have any money.

Money management is a chore all Americans must bear. God Bless the troops. We need our troops. I pray for our troops. Our troops are our troops because they made the decesion, not out of force (draft).

The "soliders and sailors act" even allows them to pay less money on their bills while the breadwinner is off in conflict. If you aren't prepared to make the sacrifice, then don't sign up.

Hey Blazer,

This is a very sore subject for me. I HATE whiners! I busted my hump up through the ranks and suffered through the low paying ranks and rolled with it. Yea, I couldn't drive a shiny new Lexus or some snappy Honda with a "kickin system", I chose to use my money wisely and hold myself responsible. Why some others can't seem to do that is beyond me. Makes me sick to listen to them whine about it.
I just finished up reading an article or two on military pay vs civilian employment....
Our lower ranks are right in line with their counterparts in the civilian world. Almost dead even for the work they do vs the pay they get. When you get around the midpoint of your military career, yes, you are severely shortchanged vs your civilian counterparts... the 8-13 year point of your military service that is.
After that you are back up there about 80-90% of your civilian counterparts.
To whine you dont have any money is no one's fault but your own.
Lose the cable modem and satellite dish, lose the red lobster eat ins every other night, lose the new car every two years. There ya go, you are back on top.
But some of these young bucks, MAN!
Tell me a high school graduate should not be ECSTATIC about this job:

Base pay: approx $1400 per month
NON taxable income:
Food allowance: $168/month
They are GIVEN a place to live!!! no rent, no water bill, no electricity, no BILLS for living!
If you area deployed out to sea away from home: $125-300/month
FREE MEDICAL - for YOU and your FAMILY
FREE DENTAL - same as above
30, thats right, THIRTY days of PAID vacation EACH YEAR! and if you dont use it all, it rolls onto the next year.

shopping on base at the "commissary" which is basically buying your food "at cost" from the wholesaler. Even Sam's Club cant hold a candle to a military grocery store.

So basically, you are getting everything you need to survive, and THEN they pay you money on top of it. Why are so many people crying and whining?

I just ran the numbers. You can START at $45,000 a year. By the end of your SIXTH year, you will make $102,970!!!

Marine by first check from Uncle Sam late 1959. Was 87 dollars. But I had all the food, clothing, cigs, place to sleep, health care. Could travel at no charge or dam near. By the way for you that have never been in that was for month. And I sent 15 bucks home to save each month. Had dam good time spending the rest.
Oh those great days 5 cent tap beers. Steak dinner 12 oz with all the trimmimgs less then 3 bucks. A movie was 15 cents. Popcorn and a small soda 15cents. Gallon of gas 20 cents. Bowling 3 games for a buck with a soda. Mc Donalds Burger 15 cents, fries 10 cents, milk shake 25 cents.

If you can get a job with us, starting at 40-42$ per year and then about 65-70 at the end of 4 years.
