Crowe, pals allegedly trash restaurant
Think marriage has tamed the beast known as Russell Crowe? Ha!
The Aussie bad boy and his posse of buddies recently caused more than $13,000 worth of damage to a posh Sydney, Australia, hotel restaurant with a game of indoor football, reports MSNBC.com.
The "Gladiator" star was treating the local rugby team to dinner in the restaurant bar, which is in the same building as his $14 million apartment. He disappeared for a few minutes and came back with a football to start a game, playing so enthusiastically that at one point he was tackled and smashed up against a wall.
The rowdy guys also started up a game of cricket after the furniture was removed - with a table leg used as a bat.
The games went on until 3 a.m., when Crowe picked up the $15,000 tab, and forked out almost as much to pay for the damages. He got back in the restaurant's good graces, though, when he returned the next day and tipped the bar staff more than $3,000.
The part-time rocker may have lost a few plus-sized fans, however, with comments he recently made about the size of his American fans.
Crowe, who sings for a group called Thirty Odd Foot of Grunts, was appearing on a Chicago radio show to promote an upcoming show when the interviewer asked if American women throw more panties onstage than his Aussie fans.
"Well, they sure throw bigger underwear in America," replied Crowe.
"He's got a little extra meat in his can, too," snarled one ex-fan.
Crowe's camp had no comment on either story.
