hc phil martelli/st joe's AGAIN states, this time on espn's "best damn...etc", that ga tech makes the final, loses by dd to uconn...he's also stated elsewhere (i forget the reference) that uconn handles duke by dd...now, i gotta pay attention to this; it's my opinion that this guy knows a little about college hoop...i would normally shrug this off if it was 1 of the usual talking heads, who often will take a side ("maybe", "however", "if", "but, then again", "having said that, it's possible that...") simply to generate interest...but martelli has no agenda here & is even addressing the spread! (thank you, phil)...i know there are no gifts or sure things, esp @ this stage of the game, & that both sat games appear close ats but i gotta believe this guy knows what he's talking about--right?
so it's uconn -, ga tech+ for me...
what a great tournament...good luck to all, caper

I am not Martelli but I see UConn by DDs too...they are stronger, faster, deeper, and frankly, better at almost every position...everyone says Calhoun can't beat Coach K 4 times straight...why not? He beat him 3 times straight already...everyone says FTs will make a difference down the stretch...well, if you are up 12 with one minute left, does it really matter whether Shaq or Rick Barry is at the line? And finally, everyone points to the ez road Uconn had to the final 4...well hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Duke's road wasnt exactly littered with huge obstacles..we all now how bad the Big Ten was - Illini simply was not very good...the one good team Duke played - Xavier - would have beaten them imo had myles not fouled out...Myles dominated Duke inside and they simply did not have an answer for him...how in the world is Duke going to compete inside with UConn, whose interior is far better than Myles and Xavier...Uconn wins...and it wont be close...

Agree with you on UCONN. I doubt if it will come down to
foul shots. And foul shots is the only stat Duke has advantage in.

UCONN takes the lead as you said and never lets up.

Duke in the past would have never allowed Ga Tech to come in Dukes home court and beat them. They are a excellant team, just not the best team in the country.

Duke ripe for the picking. Getting Duke and the points is tempting but that is what Vegas wants us to think.
