Taking the wife to San Diego in early July. Need input on where to stay? Downtown? Beach?

Also, going to take in Pads game, but would like some other input on what to do while there.

San Diego a great town, i would go onto Coronado island and check that out, Hotel Del over there is one of the nicest hotels you'll find, just to walk around and go for a drink or something. Lot of nice towns in san diego county that are worth checking out. you might want to go check out Del Mar, Laguna Beach and the Torrey Pines area. As for the city itself, i know there are a bunch of good restaurants, Sea World is right there, there is honestly so much to do in San Diego...have a blast, could be one of the nicer places to live in the country

lived in coronado an island off san diego for 8 yrs before i moved to LA and its the best city i have been to by far (as a matter of fact i just got back from there few hours ago,was there for the weekend with the family)........where u want to stay depends how much u want to spend, if u want to wow her then stay at the hotel del which is pricey but worth it otherwise u could check out the omni hotel right next to the petco park.........to eat u gotta eat at the fish market restaurant on harbor dr. which i also a few blocks away from the ballpark.......for ent. u got gaslamp quaters on 5th ave. for clubbing and dinning........sea world,SD zoo, wild animal park and legoland for the kids.....hope that helped and o u gotta take a boat ride from SD to the island coronado its like 3 or 4 bucks for 20 min. but its cool very relaxing :thumb:

I have a friend that owns a vacation rental , and has like 80 beach houses, that in the end make for a better deal in SD. But only if u stay like a week or more. Some of them have sand in back yard on boardwalk.

All orf them in the Mission Beach and Pacific Beach area.

L.A. Area
Other San Diego sights: Old Town, the Presidio, Balboa Park, Reuben H. Fleet Space Museum, Miramar NAS (Fightertown, USA) Check if your trip coincides with the airshow they hold out there.

Also, downtown SD is only minutes from Tijuana, if you want to do some gambling, or whatever...

Padre:

I will be out there for 4 nights, does he have anything for that amount of time? July 4th - 8th.

If not, no problem, plenty of nice hotels for reasonable rates. Thanks in advance and thanks for the advice everyone:00hour

Padre,

Thanks, if I don't hear from you by tomorrow, I think I will go ahead and get something. I don't want to wait til the last minute.

I appreciate your comments and help. If you find something, then let me know and I will see what I can do

Ohh I am sorry ,

But everything that he has is booked at that time, if I did find something I would have been a bit more motivated to get back to you sooner, my bad.

He did tell me though, that you are going to find it difficult to find anything reasonable.

You may have to look in the south bay or north county to find something in a good price range, and then just get a rental van or something.

I hope you enjoy it here.

If you do need more help let me know , I will try to do some physical leg work if you need me to.

good luck Padre

SD is a great place, lived there in the late 90s for a few years.I was in Carlsbad and would recommend heading up to the north county. If you like the horses Del Mar is a must,I think their racing season starts right around that time.Head up the coast a little further to La Jolla and Encinitas you won't be disappointed.Hotels and restaurants are everywhere, but you definitely need to make plans in advance.Hotels in Old Towne are generally less expensive and that is a cool area to hang out that is only a 5 minute drive to downtown SD.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the help guys. Got a room at the Sheraton Suites downtown for $100/night at priceline. Seems like a great deal as they are wanting over $200/nnight online.

3***'s
4*'s were Westin, etc.

Nice hotel according to what I have read. I tell you, I have had great success with Priceline in the past. I stayed at the Westin Peachtree in Atlanta for $55/night before
