College Football YTD 3-1 + $ 1,244.00

..................................................................

I have been waiting for this game for a few weeks now. I was looking for the Falcons to take it to New England and show me what I needed to see.

They failed. New England took Tony Gonzalez out of the Falcons offense and pulled away to win.

Tony G had one catch for 16 fawking yards :scared

I am worried that Tony G may have lost a step somehow, and wondering how easy it was to take him out of production. New England did the right thing. Hope San Fran watchs that film.

And worse yet Mike Turner had 56 total yds rushing.

And worse yet again the Falcons had 11 first downs to New Englands 28. Holy crusifiction.
And only two first downs rushing :SIB

Falcons are not the same team away as they are at home. You can say that about alot of NFL teams. But you can't say that about the teams that go deep into the NFL playoffs. You have to be able to take care of business away from your home stadium. Remember if you will how the NY Giants went into Dallas who were opening their new statdium. Giants win. The cream rises to the top Cowboys.

The swirling winds of San Francisco can mean trouble for pin point passers like Matt Ryan.
Hopefully Hill is used to it by now.

San Francisco's defense is up several grades from the Falcons. The Falcons are auditioning has been defensive line men this week as we speak . They are coming off their bye weel.

San Franciscos offense does concern me without Gore for another week. I believe that San Fran can do just enough to win this game

Home crowd advantage cannot be discounted. San Fran was coming on last year. This is a breakout game they need to win to prove they can beat playoff teams at home. Not that I am convinced the Falcons are a playoff team this year, but you get my drift.

Falcons to workout three defensive linemen
By D. Orlando Ledbetter

FLOWERY BRANCH --
The Falcons are set to give tryouts to three defensive linemen on Tuesday, the team confirmed.

Lake, 30, is a former Falcon. He has played 79 games in the league including 12 starts. He played 29 games for the Falcons, with four starts in 2004 and 2005.

Oprheus Roye, 36, has played for Pittsburgh and Cleveland since 1996. He's played defensive end and tackle. He has 180 games and 128 starts in the league.

Spicer, 34, played for Falcons head coach Mike Smith in Jacksonville. He also played for Detroit. He has 28.5 career sacks.
..........................................................

Falcons #1 Draft pick Jerry nose tackle going down for the year with knee injury has really hurt the defensive line. Even though a rookie that guy took up some space vs the run.

It is not a good sign that the Falcons in their bye week are looking to stop holes on their defensive line by signing one of these guys.

Meanwhile San Frans defensive line is licking some pork chops. They will be ready for Matty Ice.

HOLY CHITBALLS ! :scared

The San Francisco 49ers will be without Frank Gore for a couple of weeks

Front Page, Breaking Niner News, Injury Reports, General Niners Chat by admin on Monday 28 September 2009 at 6:14 pm

The San Francisco 49ers will be without star running back Frank Gore for a couple of weeks due to a high ankle sprain. He has played in all three games for the Niners this season and he has carried the ball 39 times for 241 yards (6.2 ypc) with 3 TD runs. He has also caught 8 passes for 57 yards (7.1 avg) with 1 TD grab this year. Rookie Glen Coffee will replace Gore in the starting lineup and he has not looked too good yet. He has carried the ball 35 times for 64 yards (1.8 ypc) and he has caught 2 passes for 16 yards (8.0 avg). The Niners are also considering adding Kory Sheets from the practice squad. He was outstanding for the Niners in the pre-season and I?m sure they remember that. Still, this is a huge blow to the Niners? offense and running game as Gore is the best player on the offense.

UPDATE: Gore will be out the next three weeks.

...........................................................

I hope they bring in this Kory Sheets for this game.

I know its the Rams but I like what I see from San Fran offense. Hill is a above average QB.

Sure wish Crabtree would sign and play this week.

49ers Sign Crabtree To A 6 Year Deal
Wednesday 7 October 2009 @ 1:27 pm
The 49ers finally have Michael Crabtree. After contract negotiations that went right through training camp, the preseason, and the first four games of the regular season, Michael Crabtree has signed a 6-year contract to play for the 49ers. Frankly, I never thought I would see this day. After the regular season started and Crabtree was missing out on real playing time, I thought he and his agent were actually stupid enough to sit out the season and re-enter the draft next year.

Crabtree is an offensive machine at wide receiver and should really open up the 49ers passing attack. Although the team is 3-1 in his absence, they?ve had trouble spreading out defenses. The experts didn?t think we?d do that well even with Crabtree, now that we?ve started so well without him and now he?s with us for the next 6 years? well, watch out. The 49ers are back!
.............................................................

Wish they would use him on kickoffs against the Falcons this weekend.

Probably too early .

San Fran will turn the offense up a notch with Crabtree in the lineup.

I wonder how long it will take to see him on the field? I would guess 3 wks. give or take.

The Niners are very quietly becoming a force in the National Football League. Singletary is a fine man and has done a very commendable job. I like that team.

Falcons to get ready for Crabtree
By D. ORLANDO LEDBETTER
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Crabtree, the 10th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, signed a six-year contract, ending his holdout.

"We don't have any film to go off of, but we are definitely going to account for him," safety Erik Coleman said. "We know he's a good player. He's a first round draft pick, who is extremely athletic."

The 49ers could put in a limited package for Crabtree, who starred at Texas Tech.

"We expect him to be ready, but he missed so much time that you never know," cornerback Chris Houston said. "He's signed and they could get him in there for one or two plays or something

Candlestick is a difficult read for the Falcons because it's a grass field and the area is subject to dramatic weather change. Boigner has to make sure he packs the right shoes for the sometimes slick surface.

For home games at the Georgia Dome, it's a no-brainer. Boigner also needs to pack just one set of shoes when they play outdoor teams, like New England, who have FieldTurf.

"It's when we get into places like going to San Francisco," Boigner said. "All of the California teams have grass. For those grass-type games, we wear cleated footwear."

Depending on the conditions, Boigner and his three assistants may have to pack as many as three different types of shoes for outdoor games on grass.

"We pack for each player a shoe that they would wear in optimal conditions, a dry field condition," Boigner said. "Then we also pack them a pair of shoes that would be used in wet field conditions or sloppy field conditions."

The managers will also pack a neutral shoe for anything inbetween.

"A lot of that is just changing the size of the actual cleat in the detachable shoes," Boigner said. "We make sure that each player has a pair of detachable cleated footwear for those outdoor grass games in case of sloppy weather, where the track could be such where you would have to switch shoes for traction."

Norwood, the fleet running back, is more particular than most about slick footing and checks to be sure all of his cleats are packed.

"Pretty much, you have to take three different styles of cleats," Norwood said. "You've got your molded cleats. You've got your screw-ins and a lot of guys just have specific cleats that they like. You take a couple pairs of cleats when we go warm up and you test them out and see which ones you like."

Defensive end John Abraham played on grass during his six seasons with the New York Jets.

"I might get longer cleats but that's about it," Abraham said. "I don't feel like it changes my play much. You can change shoes."

Even the big guys in the trenches make sure they have the right cleats for game conditions.

"I'll bring them out there and then go walk around in them," left tackle Sam Baker said. "We usually come to a consensus. We talk about whether if we need them."

It's a part of their pregame ritual.

"You've got to plant your feet," Baker said. "It's pretty important."

Boigner gets a little fired up for the outdoor games on grass, when he is part of the game within the game.

"We play a majority of our games indoors," Boigner said. "I've kind of been spoiled by the division that we are in. We play New Orleans every year inside, then the eight regular season [home] games indoors. That's a little bit easier than being the equipment manager for a team up in Cleveland

Dome teams run slower on the grass fields.

The San Francisco 49ers are taking care of business lately as they are coming off of a huge 35-0 route of the winless St. Louis Rams. Also, the 49ers are enjoying first place in the NFC West as they welcome the Falcons to Monster Park this Sunday. Head Coach Mike Singletary has done a great job of motivating his guys and they have responded well. The team managed to score against the Rams in nearly every way possible which included a fumble recovery in the end zone, an interception returned for a TD, another fumble recovery returned for 6 and the traditional TD pass. When a team scores as much on defense as they do on offense usually the results are W?s.

However, I will say that the 49ers really didn?t punish the Rams the way the score would make it appear. San Francisco only had 228 total offense yards; 132 passing and 96 on the ground. Usually those numbers will put you in the loss column but the Rams were even weaker and they only had 177 total yards of offense. In a game where the Niners were missing their star running back Frank Gore it was only fitting that other scoring opportunities presented themselves, and the team responded.

The game changing bonus for the 49ers this week has been their focus on defense. If the Niners bring the same effort and get similar results they may just bury the Falcons this Sunday too. San Fran had 9 sacks, 4 interceptions, 9 QB hits, and 3 defensive touchdowns last week! Holy cow Batman! The Falcons will need to score immediately to cool off the Niners D and maybe bring them back to earth.:scared :scared

Backup RB Glenn Coffee filled in for Gore but only had 74 yards on 24 carries. San Fran QB Shaun Hill is 7-0 at Monster/Candle Stick Park as he was 14 of 24 for 152 yards.:00hour

The under is 7-2 in San Francisco the last 9 games overall. The totak is 41

The QB matchup should be a good one as the Niner?s Shaun Hill has a 62 percent completion rate and a 93.3 rating overall. Atlanta?s Matt Ryan has a 65.9 percent completion rate and a 100.4 QB rating.

The Niner?s lead the Falcons in nearly every category including points per game, yards per game, and they are more productive in the red zone.:SIB

Mike Singletary has made believers out of these guys. We may be watching a star coach in the making. I like San Francisco to hold true at home and continue to play solid defense. The Niner?s will need to get their offense going a bit more to create the balance that teams need to make a decent playoff run.

Gonzalez wants to help Falcons' running game
By D. Orlando Ledbetter

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

FLOWERY BRANCH ? Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez
wants to improve his blocking and help get the running game on track.

"It seems like everybody is blocking and maybe one person might not get to their guy, and I've been one of those guys that hasn't been getting to my guy," Gonzalez said. "We all have to be accountable for that."

The 49ers are fourth in the league against the run, giving up just 73.8 yards per game.

The Falcons are 25th in the league, averaging 92.3 yards rushing per game after finishing second in the league last season at 152.7 yards per game.

Gonzalez was held to one catch when New England bracketed him and bumped him when he ran through zones. He's not sure if the 49ers will try to copy the strategy. :SIB :SIB :scared

"If you want to double-team me, that's fine," Gonzalez said. "I'll take that. It doesn't matter to me at this point. I don't care. [Michael] Jenkins had a great game against New England. If that one doesn?t get called back, we might have won that game, who knows what would have happened."

Gore out

San Francisco announced that running back Frank Gore (ankle) will not play Sunday against the Falcons.

...................................................................

This Pro Bowl Tight End had one catch for 16 yds last game vs New England and he is worried about
his blocking skills.

Hey Tony - here is a clue.

San Fran defense is just as good as New Englands

They are going to double team you and bump you in zone coverage again and again. Ouch
