ddubs,

I'm digging the B's right now. All teams get hot and cool off so I'm not running around beating my chest or anything. There's lots of hockey to play so I'm just gonna enjoy the ride.

Love NHL hockey but all these penalties are rediculus. Seems like the NHL is trying to take hitting completely out of the game and that's not good. How do you think Cam Neely would react in this no contact NHL?

LMAO, took the words right out of my mouth.

NHL's trying to make the game more marketable, attract new fans, but it's killing the true fans like us, not to mention hard as hell to cap games now. I hate this new obstruction rule. You used to have to EARN a power play, now the refs are handing them out like free candy. What's hockey without contact, hard checking, boarding, stick to the side of the face a la McSorley........ok ok I'm getting carried away.

I just hope all these new rules get thrown out the window come playoff time.

Interesting ESPN poll......

53% It's great. The more the better. :)

31.9% It's ok. Moderately entertaining.

15% It's bad for the sport

ddubs,

They really are not new rules. All the NHL is doing is enforcing the existing rules. When all the expansion started 10 years ago, the only way the new teams could compete was to clutch and grab as they did not have the talent to compete. The NHL did not have a problem with it because they were trying to make inroads in new NHL cities. Now that it has been 4 years since the last team came into the NHL they figure now they must go back to what worked before and that was let the skilled players play.

I had a chance to talk to Mario 2 weeks ago when the Pens were in Ott. and one of the reasons he came back was the fact the NHL was going to clamp down on the obstruction. Look back at tapes from the early 90's and all the way back to the 80's and 70's. Their was no stick work and no clutching and grabbing. The interference was non-existent compared to the way hockey is played now. Just my 2 cents!
