Do a search. A number of people here have stated many times that our government has killed many women, children in Iraq and Afganistan. Is there a difference between that and what Hedge said?
Yes. There is a difference. Killing innocent people in the name of a wartime effort is certainly a possibility and no doubt has happened in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's tragic and by no means should we have even started that war. But it is what it is. War!
And yet to say the US gov't had a hand in killing innocent children in our country as a means of gun control is ignorant and insane. It reeks of Ted Kaczynski like insanity and people who perpetrate such insanity should be watched with a careful eye.
I am a Liberal and have a high disdain for G.W. Bush, and yet when 911 occurred during his watch, I never once thought for a second that he had a hand in those bombings to push his military agenda in Iraq.
That kind of thinking is shear nonsense.
While I do not agree with or condone the killing of ANY innocent person regardless of age, creed nationality, political persuasion, etc., the deaths of innocent Iraqis and Afghanis are a result of "wars" and/or conflicts that the US is currently involved with. Thus, their deaths can somewhat be explained (though I don't think ever justified) by terms such as "accidental," "collateral damage" and "casualties of war."
Juxtaposing the deaths of innocent Iraqis and Afghans during a time of "war" or conflict with the senseless killing of American women and children in a small American town by non-military personnel makes absolutely no sense given the difference in context.
So yeah, in my opinion, there is a HUGE difference between the two! No question about it!
And what's interesting about your comment is that historically, there really hasn't been an outcry over the killing of innocent Iraqi and Afghani civilians during these times of war - especially from staunch conservatives who (rightly or wrongly) are primarily concerned with the well-being of the American troops.
Have the tides changed or are these (false) similarities being conjured up to support a completely different (new) agenda? Very interesting....
