Santos start

Right-hander Victor Santos will become the eighth different pitcher to start a game during the 2002 season and 60th in the 10-year history of the Rockies.

The 25-year-old right-hander made seven starts for the Detroit Tigers last season in his rookie campaign, going 2-2 with a 5.50 ERA. He has appeared in 18 games out of the bullpen since his July 31 callup and has not pitched longer than 12/3 innings (Aug. 11 against the Chicago Cubs).

"We will watch the number of pitches," Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said.
