north carolina (+2.5) 2 units. as nice a guy as bill stewart may be, he's done an awful job with a team many expected to contend for the national title. in fact, butch davis with time to prepare vs bill stewart... that is a big edge for nc right there. speaking of national title hopes, playing in this bowl game is a big disappointment for the mountaineers. they don't even have the motivation of getting stewart his first bowl win, because they took care of that last year. so how excited will they really be today?
the tarheels meanwhile went from 4-8 a year ago to 8-4 this year. this is their first bowl game in 4 years. they'll be pretty fired up for this.
under (46) 1 unit. this may be redundant, since nc's best chance of winning today is to keep it a low-scoring game. they averaged 31 points/game with tate in the lineup, and 23 points/game since his injury. their defense needs to step up and tackle today. the fact that they held georgia tech to 7 points (an 85-yard td run in garbage time) shows that this defense can maintain the discipline you need to slow down the wv offense.
