Bowl Season: 6-2-1

Woke up this morning and had hoped that the effort Maryland put forth in the second half last night was a bad. It wasn't and it left me with a 1-1-1 day on the bowls yesterday. Anyway, on to today where we have three more bowlers, a full day of college hoops and an intriguing NFL game tonight......what a great day for sports!!

Wake Forest ML, -130 over Uconn.

First, an explanation on the money line. The line I got was -2 at -120. With the ML at -130, I am thinking why not just spend the extra juice because, after watching both these teams all season, if there ever was a game that was going to be decided late in the game by a single point, it is this one. These teams loved to play close games and pull it out in the end.

Its been said WF might be disappointed being here after the Orange Bowl last year, but this is the first time ever the school has qualified for back to back bowl games. Wake's got a lot of seniors who see that as their legacy and the best way to puncuate that is with a bowl win in their home state. Both teams play solid D, are opportunistic and will run, run, run to set up the pass. But, I think Wake is one the more underrated teams in the nation as far as how fast and physical they play, and those skills will shine greatly today.

The difference is that Wake has more big game experience and they have better playmakers. In a tight game, I'll take my chances with Joey Adams, Kenneth Moore or Kevin Marion making the big plays on offense and in the return game which I dont think Uconn can match despite the solid play from QB Lorenzen and the emergence of RB Andre Dixon. Just feel Wake has more weapons.

Meanwhile, on defense both have been good at takeaways with Uconn at 7th nationally in TO margin and WF at 15th. But, there's a couple of things that stand out as I see it. Wake has scored non offensive touchdowns 10 times this year and are 5-1 in games in which they do so. And, in a game where both teams are very dedicated to the run, I think WF can expose a somewhat soft defensive front of the Huskies. Watch WF Center Steve Justice. He's a potential first day draft pick and anchors a good, experience WF OL that has a decided edge against Uconn first line of defense.

I love both coaches, but think Grobe is a better game planner than Edsall and will have some tricks up his sleeve to get a game breaker like Kenneth Moore the ball a lot in some unconventional ways. In the end, I see a close battle, but WF's OL will win their battles, Moore will have 2-3 huge plays that'lll change momentum, the Deacons will somehow get a D or ST score.....and their kicker Sam Swank, one of the best in the game, will boot four field goals, including some big ones late in the game to ice this contest.

Good luck to everyone today!!!

Adding:

WF 2H -3. Already chasing it looks like....lol.

Being down wont scare Wake. they're used to coming back in games especially when it looks like they're so down and out that they dont have a chance. They're moving the ball pretty well in the middle of the field, and I think Grobe will make enough adjustments at the half, that they will break through with some points in the second half. Other than one big run by the tailback and an amazing punt return, I love what Wake's D has done. They might not come all the way back to win, but they will close it to within a TD, and I would still be shocked if they didn't have a chance to win this game late in the game.

Nice job Deamon Deacons!! :00hour

Onto the Liberty Bowl:

Mississippi State +3 over UCF.......many feel the Bulldogs have won with smoke and mirrors this year. Maybe so, but those smoke and mirrors got them big wins in Auburn, in Kentucky and on the road against Alabama. Croom has created am emotional team which lacks in statistics, but more than makes up for it by playing hard all game, hanging tough and making plays late. At times their D has looked great; other times rather pedestrain. I think they'll be fired up enough in this one. Kevin Smith will get his yards for UCF, but I think the Dawgs will contain him enough to keep him from running wild. Dixon will beat Israel in the QB battle and look for MSU to win the turnover battles and a big game out of Derek Pegues on defense and special teams. UCF has 11 turnovers in their three losses this year, and I think MSU forces at least three as they give a fired up effort in their team's first bowl game in seven years.

Under 54: Tailing some people on this one.It is hard to see mississippi state playing a shootout in this one. Only three of their games this year have exceeded 54 points. The number is high in this one is because UCF has put up some big scores in a lot of their games, but I think the Knights will find it to be much harder sledding against an SEC defense than they have in conference usa. I would be surprised if the winner of this game has more than 28 points. The Unders have been on a roll lately in the bowls with four in a row hitting......here comes another one.

Lets go Dawgs! Give me more Cowbell!!!

And, Good Luck out there!!

Cashed the Bulldogs and the Under....UCF, you have been Croomed!!!

Alamo Bowl:

Texas AM -7 over Penn St....bought it up to 7......we're squarely backing the underdog in this one. At some point, the dogs in the bowls will go on another long run. Think PSU is kinda overrated and I have never been a fan of Morelli. Sure, they will score on the Aggies, but I think PSU D is soft, despite their credentials.....think TAMU can move on them......really, not sure there's a big difference in talent between both teams, so I'll take the team playing in their home state with a TD head start.

Thought about playing the total, but after watching something like five games in a row now with crappy QB play and offensive play calling, I'm a little gun shy about calling for any over....fyi, I did take the over in the pats-nyg game.

Good luck tonight!

Unfortunately for you I'm on A&M TP. I think that means A&M will play great for 30 minutes, then get clobbered in the 2h. :scared

Thanks guys! Obviously good luck to both of you tonight and rest of bowl season.

No worries Glenn....lets get this winner tonight.....somehow, we'll get you going in the right direction!

Laid off on the the total, but I will be looking hard at the 2nd H. I've said it before, but these bowl games are like a Rocky fight (or an NBA game), and the team down at half i expect to come roaring out in the 2nd.

Thanks TP. Good luck to you as well. I definitely agree that the teams who are down at half generally come out and play well in the 2h. That's the been case the first couple of weeks for sure!

Nice 4-0-1 day. Could have been 5-0 if not for an awful fourth down play call by the Aggies near the goal line.....c'est la vie, and I'll take a day w/o losses any time.

:00hour :00hour :00hour

Bowl Season: 10-2-2......only one bowl tomorrow.....leaning to Colorado at the moment, but will be breaking the game down further tomorrow.

Good night fellow madjackers!!!
