lol, big joes fan now, huh?

just giving ya some shit.....but I honestly think you are picking the wrong time to jump on the bandwagon.

tell me one thing that joes does better than okie state besides shoot the 3 ball.

trust me......i have been the biggest critic of okie state all year, but I am a believer after watching them play their last 5 or so games.

joes has not seen physical play like they will see on saturday. cant think of one atl-10 team and they havent seen on in the tourney yet......

chiefs fan !:tongue we agree. gman2, you are probably older than me and been doing this longer, but i would not bet against oky after they beat pitt. i thought this them to be a bit overrated but not now. they beat pitt physically. no one on oky real big but they play very hard and they shoot very well. do not see st joe getting all the clear looks like they did last game. jmo

tease:

both teams have different strengths. hard to compare matchups. joes shoots the 3 better and has better guards (but thats the case against anyone they could possibly play). osu is more physical on defense, but the st.joes pressure is much different. osu stronger inside. teams dont shoot as well vs joes as they do vs osu. all in all, its just a very close matchup. but if someone wants to give me points....ANY points in this game, ill gladly take them. theres really no reason for st.joes to be an underdog. this game should be a pick em. i figured line would be pick to st.joes -1.

plus, the number of people unloading "monster" or "my biggest play of the year" or "every dollar in my bankroll" on osu makes me wonder a bit if joes should even show up. does osu have a very good chance of covering? absolutely. but i still dont think they should be laying those points. but thats my opinion. nobody is gonna agree but thats my opinion. i always look to be objective. i dont necessarily think st.joes is a great team but i do think this is a game that they have the better chance to win AND are getting points

also- the funny thing is that the teams that COULD give st.josephs the most problems are already gone from the tournament. joes would have huge matchup problems against kentucky or stanford. and probably gonzaga and mississippi state as well.

theres nothing oklahoma state has or does that really puts joes at a disadvantage. the cowboys are just a good overall team. if they win the game, it will be because they simply made more shots than joes. sound like a basketball cliche im sure- but its completely true in my opinion with this matchup. okie isnt going to win the game because they have better this, or better that. if they win it will be because they just hit more shots.

no stanford and no kentucky makes it very possible that joes could come awfully close to the big prize. the only team left where i think joes would be fu/cked against is uconn.

the path is clear for st.joes to at least play in the title game if they play to their potential. all the st.joes roadblocks have bounced themselves from the tourney

Gman, don't get me wrong as I love being on your side of games, but please tell me how you think that St. Joe's has an edge defensively?? OK, for that matter, please tell me how they are even remotely close on defense?? I really am eagerly awaiting this answer.

jcovers:

joes is better in every defensive category (scoring defense, field goal % defense, 3pt % defense).

team / ppg allowed / fg% allowed / 3pt % allowed

joes 62.1/ 39.9% / 28.8%
osu 62.8 / 41.1% / 31.1%

steals per game?
joes 9.1
osu 8.1

3pters allowed per game?
joes 4.5
osu 5.1

bottom line is both teams are very sound defensively. its their styles of defense that separates them. its not like either defense is weak. its a relative comparison. but hard to knock the sju defense. defense and 3pt shooting are their two strengths. my play has nothing to do with the osu defense. both teams are sound. but when you look at the #s, joes is better (at least from a statistical perspective. anything else would be subjective)

holy shit bombs- the world must really be coming to an end. im defending the saint josephs hawks.

I see your point from a statistical perspective, only. IMO, those numbers are not all that compelling. So goes the saying...apples to apples, oranges to oranges. Big 12 to A-10?? No thanks, not for me.

Not that this is all that telling either, but I took a quick look at the team FG % by conference and Big 12 shoots quite a bit better as a whole. Teams in the Big 12 averaged from 51 to 41%, while the A-10 averages were from 47 to 37%. Not that it shoots tons of holes in your argument, but it is another factor that plays into looking at this game by the numbers. I personally don't care about the numbers. I think that I know from watching both teams whose defense is much better than the other.

Good Luck to All,

thats where we bring subjectivity into the argument. i can only go by what i see and what i know from all my years around the game and i think saint josephs holds the edge on defense. only reason i posted the numbers is because that at least allows for an objective POV. again, theyre two different styles of defense. so its hard to truly compare. i just think joes holds the edge at the guards,3pt shooting, and defense. osu holds the edge inside, on the glass, and in brute physical strength along with more balanced scoring position-wise.

Gman,

Whats your take on the UConn under? With the line being -8.5/142 the predicted score is 75-66 or 75-67 UConn. Bama has been held under 66 only 1 out of their last 10 games (vs SIU) and that was 65 points. I understand that UConn has held 9 of their last 10 opponents under 67 points with their last 4 only scoring 53,55,53,58 but those are not necessarily high scoring teams they faced. Just wanted to see your take on this total. Thanks

Fab

fabulous:

outside shooting and transition basketball is what got alabama here. but theyll get smashed if they try and get into a track meet with uconn. gottfried should know this. bama is a streaky outside shooting team. in every single one of their games, they have been hot/cold. vs siu, they built a lead and pissed it away. then vs stanford they went something like 14:00 of the 2nd half scoring 5 or 6 points. then got hot (otherwise theyd be gone). and vs syracuse they started off the game on fire, then had some lulls. basically this is me betting that the game becomes physical and much more half-court than people expect. i cant see bama trying to score 70 or 75 and expecting to win.

Let me chime in please

Let me chime in please

I have watched Ok State play alot this season. The East Coast bias that labels OK State as another Sutton team that will exit early just cracks me up. This is the perfect team, they lead the nation in fg%, they play that Eddie Sutton hard nosed defense, their big men are very athletic, they run the court and jump out of the gym, their backcourt compliments each other very well, they have the true point, the versatile athletic swingman, and the true 2 guard. Everyone they put on the floor can knock down the open 3. although they don't shoot alot of 3's because thery are constantly attacking the basket thus is why they lead the nation in field goal percentage. They are a veratile team that can play any style, they beat Pitt at their own style though they are more suited to play a wide open game like they will see tonight. Take an indepth look at the Memphis game, the Tigers are a very similiar team to St. Joseph. Their perimeter game carries them, Memphis is a much more athletic team under the basket than St. Joseph. Not saying Memphis is a better team or has a better backcourt than the Hawks but a similiar team. OK State just swallowed them in every aspect of that game. It was the most dominating half of basketball I have ever seen. OK State will win the national title.

Okie St can not beat UCONN on their best day.

As much as I hate them I cant see them beating Duke either.

UConn is playing great basketball, but come on. Notre Dame, North Carolina, and Providence beat UConn when they were at full-strength. To say Okie St basically has no chance is ridiculous.
