San Diego (Bynum) at Montreal (Reames)
-- Vladimir Guerrero is questionable for the Expos Saturday.
-- Mike Bynum makes his major league debut for the Padres Saturday night. He was 2-1 with a 4.74 ERA for AAA Portland this season, with 11 strikeouts to just one walk in 19 innings pitched. In 33 innings of work with AA Mobile, Bynum was 4-0 with a 0.87 ERA.
-- San Diego completed its first road sweep of the season when it took three in a row from the New York Mets earlier this week. The Padres won three of their last five series heading into this weekend.
-- The 'over' is 9-5 in San Diego's August tilts, including Friday night's result. Montreal had seen the 'under' emerge in five straight contests before defeating the Padres 11-6 Friday.
Houston (Oswalt) at Cincinnati (Estes)
-- Shawn Estes makes his debut for the Reds Saturday night. The left-hander was 4-9 (4.55 ERA) with the New York Mets this season. He was dealt to the Reds (along with cash) in exchange for Pedro Feliciano, Elvin Andujar and two players to be named later.
-- Roy Oswalt (14-6, 3.20 ERA) is undefeated versus Cincinnati, with a perfect 5-0 mark and 1.74 ERA. LVSC installed Houston as a minus $1.45 favorite Saturday evening, with the total set at 9 'under' (minus $1.30).
-- The Astros are plus 695 in Oswalt's starts this year, including plus 195 on the road. However, Houston is minus 105 versus the NL Central in Oswalt's road assignments.
-- The one Cincinnati player who has garnered a bit of success versus Oswalt is Aaron Boone, who is 4-for-10 with a home run versus the righty.
-- Houston has maintained the upper hand in the season series. Despite the 9-3 loss to Cincinnati Friday night, the Astros are 7-4 against the Reds this year.
Cleveland (Phillips) at Anaheim (Washburn)
-- Jarrod Washburn (15-3, 2.97 ERA) is 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA in the month of August. The lefty has won 15 of his last 16 decisions. Not surprisingly, the Angels are plus 1,365 when he toes the rubber.
-- One of Washburn's three losses this season came at the hands of Cleveland, a 6-0 defeat to start the season. He had his revenge in a 7-2 victory on May 1. LVSC installed Washburn as a prohibitive minus $2.80 favorite in this spot.
-- The Angels own a 5-2 advantage in the season series after Friday's 5-4 victory. Cleveland took the first series to open the 2002 regular season, but Anaheim bounced back at Edison International Field to begin a torrid May.
-- Cleveland is minus 425 when Jason Phillips (1-1, 4.13 ERA) starts this year, including minus 320 on the road.
-- Travis Fryman an Einar Diaz are a combined 5-for-10 lifetime versus Washburn, each with a home run versus the lefty.
Other notes of interest
-- The New York Mets have lost six straight to drop into a last-place tie with Florida in the NL East. All four games against L.A. have dipped 'under' the closing total.
-- Boston's Tim Wakefield is 8-2 lifetime, with a 4.18 ERA. He allowed one run over eight innings in his last start (a 3-1 victory versus Minnesota last Sunday).
-- Prior to Monday's poor outing, Mark Redman of Minnesota had allowed just nine runs over a 43 2/3-innings span. However, he coughed up five earned runs in just four innings during Monday's 7-0 loss to Anaheim.
