Fairleigh Dickinson is the favorite to win the Northeast conference. They have a good player in Gordon Klaiber and return two other starters. Wofford gets Howard Wilkerson back after he injured his knee last year. Before getting hurt Wilkerson was putting together an all-conference calibre season through the first 16 games of the year. He led the Terriers to a 7-2 start last year by scoring 23 points in a season opening near-upset of Miami (Fla.). Wilkerson also collected 23 points and 13 rebounds in a six-point loss at Tennessee, 28 points in an overtime loss at Georgia, and had 19 points and eight rebounds in an 85-78 win at Auburn. In five games against SEC and ACC foes,Wilkerson averaged 19.8 points and 9.2 rebounds. Wofford also has a nice point guard in Byron Fields. The main reason I am on Wofford here is Shane Nichols. He is a transfer from St. Peters. He was the MAAC rookie of the year in 03-04. He was St.Peters second leading scorer behind Keydren Clark who led the nation in scoring. Nichols made 69 three pointers. With Wilkerson inside and Nichols outside, I look for Wolford to be very improved from last season. Should be an entertaining game with Klaiber vs Wilkerson.
