MIAMI -3
I don't know what happened to A&M but hiring Sherman was not the answer. They lost their home opener to ARKANSAS ST. and are getting obliterated on the ground. The 235.5 yards per game they give up on the ground is good enough for 114th best in the nation. Their offense has also been very poor, ranking 110th in offensive yards per game...not cracking the top 95 in passing or rushing yards per game! It is not like A&M has played stiff competition either...they lost at home to Ark. St and managed a 28-22 win @ New Mexico.
Last year this game was at the Orange Bowl and Miami DESTROYED the Aggies. Miami was up 31-0 before letting off the gas and coasting to a 34-17 beat down. McGee, Lane, and Goodson, the Aggies big 3 were totally ineffective. The only notable play was a 33 yard pass from Jerrod Johnson (who will see time tomorrow) to TE Martellus Bennett who is now in the NFL.
Miami is very talented and back in the right direction with Randy Shannon. They shut down the Heisman winner Tebow for 3 quarters until becoming completely exhausted. Shutting down Stephen McGee is not nearly the daunting task of containing Tebow and I think the Canes D will be able to handle him as well as the rest of the Aggie offense.
The Canes had a bye last week and I have no doubt at all they are prepped and ready for this game on the road. They will not take it lightly and will play some good ball. The pass offense is nothing to write home about, but they have a pretty solid run game. Seeing how the Aggies let nobodies run for 235 a game on them, I have a feeling the highly sought after prospects Miami has will do just the same. Even the mediocre Miami pass offense was able to torch the Aggies D last year and Sam Shields will be ready to do the same this year. I think Shields will be good for atleast 2 big plays for the Canes.
IOWA -1
I love this Iowa defense. They have yet to let up a touchdown this year. Along with that, they are ranked 23rd in yards against per game. They are a very stingy defense with an extremely talented pair of DTs. LeSean McCoy will have a hard time running on these guys and I dont think he'll be testing the run room up the middle much.
Iowa will probably continue with the QB carousel which is fine as long as one of them gets it done. Shon Greene had a very nice day running the ball last week and I think they will involve him more this week vrs. Pitt. Koulianos is also a playmaker at WR for Iowa.
Pitt was beat at home by Bowling Green and narrowly beat Buffalo. I think they will have a lot of trouble scoring on the Iowa D and will come up short in the end. I think the under would be a good play as well in this game.
FAU +7
FAU ML+220
FAU is getting absolutley no respect here and that is fine by me. I love them to win this game outright. Their 1st game they had the pleasure of being slaughtered by Texas, then lit up UAB at home, and then last week had to go play in a monsoon at Michigan St. where they lost 17-0.
Last year these two played @ FAU and the Owls won 42-39. Rusty Smith is a very underrated QB for the Owls and he is a real gun slinger. The Golden Gophers could not slow him down at all last year getting burned for 463 yards and 5 touchdowns through the air from Smith. I cant say that I am expecting the Gophers to contain him this year as they bring in the 104th ranked pass defense. I wouldnt say the Gophers have played stiff competition either. I am sure they have revenge on their minds but I dont see them stopping Smith and his cannon and I think FAU wins this straight up.
I will gladly take the 7 points as insurance though even if I am playing another play on the ML!
Theres a few later games I have been looking at but not sure yet.
