bowl season already? seriously?

the autonation cure bowl? wtf is that? are they curing cars? i'm so confused.

tulane (-3) 4 units. both teams get more yards rushing than through the air, but tulane's defense gives up a full yard less on the ground. the green wave play in a tougher conference, and they'll be pretty excited to play today. also, they went 4-1 since mcmillan took over for banks at qb. mcmillan has been very solid, throwing 9 TDs and only 2 INTs, both of which came against houston.

oh, and i don't have the numbers, but 1st-year coaches tend to do poorly in bowls. louisiana is led by a 1st-year coach.

utah st (-7) 2 units. purely subjective for me. i simply think the aggies are the much better team, and we all know the better team always wins bowl games. :0074 ok, ok, maybe not. but i do like the aggies today, in this battle of two good young qbs. actually, utah st has a much more balanced offense than the mean green, which makes it more difficult to prepare for when you're playing a team you're not familiar with.

fresno st (-6) 5 units. a little nervous, because i'm starting to see 5.5's out there. but you'd better believe i'm wagering against good ol' herm edwards. there is a rumor that he was still at the $5 craps table at 3:00 AM at the strat this morning, yelling YOU PLAY TO WIN THE DICE GAME.

anyway, fresno is a very solid team, and while their offense has been good, their defense has been great. they are tied for the #2 scoring defense in D1.

mcmaryion has had a great senior year, throwing 25 TDs and only 3 INTs. he should have a big game against a mediocre az st defense.

under (54) 2 units. small play here, in case fresno's offense isn't clicking today.

let's call the final score... 30-13

whoops, did i misspell that?

emu (ML) 4 units to win 5.2. upon first look, emu's run defense scared me. it ain't good. but a couple things make me think they might be ok today. for one thing, emu has had two weeks to prepare for the option attack. that extra time is always big. and, lo and behold, they've already seen the triple option this year. they gave up 289 rushing yards to army on 73 carries. that's 4.0 yards/carry. army averages 296 and 4.6. so they did a decent job against that option.

emu is rolling, winning 5 of their last 6, mostly since tyler wiegers regained his job as the starting qb. i once swore i'd never bet on a qb named tyler, but rules are meant to be broken. he's been very solid, throwing 11 TDs and only 3 INTs. he needs to have a good game against a pass defense that gives up over 7 yards/attempt. if emu can get a lead, that's always a big factor against a team that runs the option.

under (45.5) 4 units. i think this is actually going to be a pretty low-scoring game. let's call another final score... emu 17-12.

Appalachian St (-6.5) 3 units. hearing so much about this is the last game for the stockstill's together, as brent retires after playing at mtsu for the last 12 years (roughly). but this is a very, very good app st team. their only losses this year were at penn st (in OT) and against georgia southern, when their starting qb got knocked out the first series of the game. their d is nasty, especially against the pass, which is how mtsu gets most of their yards. app st is 3rd in the country, only giving up 148 passing yards/game.

on the other side of the ball, app st gets most of their yards on the ground, and mtsu's run defense has been decent this year. so the blue raiders may keep this close. but i think app st is just too good overall, and they'll pull away.
