c'mon, nevada, show some goddamn life on offense!!

Orange Bowl not from the Orange Bowl

Orange Bowl not from the Orange Bowl

alabama (-14.5) 5 units. oklahoma really shouldn't be in this game. georgia is by far the better team. but they had their shot and they blew it. and now alabama gets to feast on this terrible defense. oklahoma has the offense to keep this close for a while. alabama's defense is not as dominant as in years past, especially against the run. IF oklahoma stays close and is patient with the run game, this might even be a game for 30 minutes. but then they go to the locker rooms, and nick saban and lincoln riley make their adjustments. my money is on saban.

my two concerns:

1) kyler murray running wild and keeping oklahoma in the game. it wasn't long ago that alabama struggled against mobile qbs, but they seem to have fixed that problem in recent years.

2) if tua can't play and jalen hurts goes into the game. hurts, obviously, has had plenty of success. but he's not the decision-maker tua is. if he starts pressing, he may turn the ball over a few times.

overall, alabama is just so much better. it's hard to imagine oklahoma getting many stops. let's call the final... 59-27.

clemson (-12.5) 3 units
clemson 1st H (-7) 2 units. just seeing way too much love for nd. this is one of the rare bowl matchups with plenty of common opponents.

nd beat wake by 29. clemson beat them by 60.
nd beat pitt by 5. clemson beat them by 32.
nd beat florida st by 29. clemson beat them by 49.

the only exception was syracuse, which seems to have clemson's number. clemson only beat them by 3, in the game where lawrence was knocked out. when nd beat syracuse, it was syracuse's starting qb that got knocked out early.

ian book has been incredible for nd. but i don't know if he can carry a team against a great defense. i actually trust lawrence a little more today, because i think he's going to get more help from his running game.

ever since college football moved to the bcs system, i've made a lot of money wagering against nd in these big games. this is the first time i'm a little nervous, primarily because i've been very impressed with ian book. but until nd proves they can actually compete at this level, i'm going to keep betting against them.

Once again dead on... Nice call Smitty...
