Lot of games today .. so the process of being selective and picking the right games becomes much more harder.
Starting with the morning games - will post picks on evening games later on ..
Red Wings @ Philly Under 5 for 3%
In last 2 games the Wings have scored 0 goals against TB and 2 goals against Florida .. now they are on the road against Philly .. certainly not the easiest place to go on an offensive spree.
The good part is they have allowed one goal only in each of the two games on the road.
Philly has been on a recent scoring spree getting 4 goals against Islanders. I was watching the game and the Islanders defence was not good. Detroit goaltending and defence is much much better than the Islanders. Philly also scored 3 against Sabres and 5 against Atlanta in a shootout. Not much concern to me.
These two teams have played once in Philly over last 3 seasons and that game had gone Under.
The under is 3-1-1 in the past five meetings.
The under is 15-3 when the Flyers are home
Philly defence has been very stingy in the last five games giving up 1.4 goals per game .. but that is not the real story .. if u take a closer looks .. Philly has given up
0 goals to Islanders
2 goals to Sabres
4 goals to Atlanta
0 goals to Anaheim
1 goals to LA Kings
So if u the Atlanta shootout comes out of the picture the GAA drops a lot. This tells me that they are playing good defence ..
Detroit has been playing good defence also giving up 2.00 goals per game in last 5 games.
In last 5 games Detroit is averaging 2.4 goals per game while Philly is averaging 3.4 goals per game.
Taking a closer look in last 5 games Philly scored
4 against bad Islanders defence
5 against horrible Atlanta defence
4 against non-existent LA defencemen
Against teams which play good defence ... especially Ducks @ home Philly scored 1 goal .. and 3 against Sabres
The only concern for me is how will Joseph play against the Flyers .. Joseph has a horrible record against the Flyers when he was in Toronto ..
Checkmanek has faced Detroit once and shut them out that time.
Coming to Special teams :
For the season :
Red Wings Power Play is @ 19.3% which is 7'th in the league
Flyers penalty killing is @ 81.5 % 23'rd in the league
Flyers Power Play is @ 11.8% .. 28'th in the league
Detroit Penalty killing is @ 85.3% .. 8'th in the league
But in the last 5 games the story is different :
Red Wings Power Play is @ 21.3% which is up
Flyers penalty killing is @ 95.2 % which is significantly up
Flyers Power Play is @ 13.4% which is up
Detroit Penalty killing is @ 76.9% which is down ..
LAST MEETING: Oct. 18, 2001; Red Wings, 3-2. At Detroit, the Flyers held a 2-1 lead in the third period before Fedorov scored at 19:19 to tie it, and Hull scored 23 seconds later to give the Red Wings the win.
Expected Final Score : Detroit 1 Flyers 2
Cheers !!!
Good luck
