Friday gab:
How about that, Rodriguez didn't blow in for the Giants (Nenn, too).
Marlins bullpen gave it shot, though.
Miller is looking at a short career the way he is being used. It's really starting to show. Mind you, 'Stros were up 3-0, 5-1, and 9-7 in the 8th.
I, for one, have never trusted Rocker to close out a game.
Pettitte short outing was predictable, but Yankees are just too good ... again.
What's with Burba? Maybe the Reds should re-acquire him.
I'll take the Rockies anytime they're a dog against a mediocre pitcher, thank-you.

NAME...DR...NP...RC/TRC...WHIP...ERA...3RATE
Hampton...5...109...9-2/10-3...1.32....2.98.....15
L.Davis....Major League Debut
...Hampton LH .321 (surprise, surprise)
...24-year old lefty Davis was a 16th round draft pick by Reds in '95; he was 7-2 w/3.05 era and 1 ShO in 13 starts at Triple-A this year
--------------------
Mussina...5...119.....5-7/6-7....1.12...3.74.......14.5
Appier.....5....111.....4-5/4-9....1.26...4.17.......23
...Mussina RH .281, SLG .368
...Appier LH .280, RH .217
...Yanks have lost 3 straight Mussina starts
...no runs vs Appier in last 2, 7 IP each @Fla & @TBay: 14 IP, 6 H, 4 BB, 17K, ND0-1 @Fla (vs Burnett) then W10-0 @TBay
--------------------
K.Wells...5...95......3-2/3-2....1.21....1.82.......21
Hermanson..5..86....5-5/5-8...1.47....5.54......7.5
...Wells LH .117, RH .300, SLG .329
...Hermanson LH .280, SLG .510
...Hermanson 0-4 w/9.30 era in last 4
...Cards bats have been like 'Zonas lately (here today, gone tomorrow); the way Wells has been pitching, particularly against lefties, the ChiSox have a shot. If Hermanson shows up (money line for that is +315) then so does the under
--------------------
Davis.......5....106....2-5/2-8....1.80...5.96......16
McKnight.....1st 2001 ML appearance
...Davis LH .298, RH .331
...McKnight 4-1 w/1.26 whip & 3.86 era in 6 starts for Astros in 2000; 7-4 w/4.37 era at Triple-A in 2001: 70 IP, 77 H (7 HR), 15 BB, 47 K -- mind you, his Triple-A home park is allegedly a "pitcher's park"
--------------------
Lidle.........6...85....1-4/3-8.....1.26...4.66.......19
Hernandez..5...120...4-9/5-9...1.69...6.80.....11
...Lidle LH .209, RH .290
...Hernandez LH .327, RH .333, SLG .529
--------------------
Thomas.....9...96.....0-0/1-2....1.82...7.11......14
Lieber........5...100....6-4/8-5....1.05...3.18.....17.5
...Thomas LH .385, RH .216
...Lieber RH .198, SLG .343
...Thomas long rest due to being skipped in the rotation last time; the guy's a rookie, but skipping him shows he's not the Twins #1 pitcher ... or #2 ... or #3 ... or #4.
...I'm a sucker for Lieber -- he's still an outside pick for the Cy, but -175 chews; I'd try Cubs -1.5, but they often win one-runners (may not stop me ... oh wait, entertainment purposes only!

--------------------
Nomo.....5....91.....6-3/10-3....1.13....3.69......18
Burkett...4....87.....5-5/8-6......1.09....2.73......19
...Nomo LH .153, RH .218, SLG .336
...Burkett LH .203, SLG .342
--------------------
Reichert....5...65.....5-6/5-8....1.60...4.46.......9
Haynes.....3...111....5-7/7-7....1.49...4.50.......16
...Reichert LH .304
...Haynes RH .298
...obviously D'Amico isn't ready to go yet, with Haynes pitching on 3 DR; before last start he had 5 DR after 102 pitches
--------------------
Wright.....5...50......2-1/4-1....2.05...4.91.......13
Schmidt...5...63......2-2/3-3....1.50...6.16.......11.5
...Wright LH .300, RH .306, SLG .395
...Schmidt LH .353
...Wright didn't make it out of the 2nd innings in last vs Cincy, allowing 8 runs, 6 earned
...Schmidt didn't make it out of the 2nd innings in last @Minny, allowing 8 earned runs
...is the over 9.5 a gift, or am I missing something? (quite possible) -- these starters both have talent, but appear to be going through rehab work while with their big clubs
--------------------
Lopez.....5....124.....3-8/3-10....1.68...5.60.....6
Penny.....5.....98......5-1/7-6......1.30...4.04....15.5
...Lopez LH .304, RH .293
...Lopez 0-6 w/9.54 era in last 7 starts; has had recent problems with both a groin injury and a swollen right thumb; TBay has dropped his last 8 starts; this guy did have good trade value, about 6-8 weeks ago, but he's been a joke for 2 months now; 124 pitches in last? I guess that shows how bad TBay's bullpen is
...Penny listed as Questionable (finger) by sportsnetwork.wrong

Johnson...5...113.....6-3/8-5....1.19....3.09.....20
Person.....5....110....4-5/7-6.....1.29....4.37.....11
...Johnson SLG .382
...Johnson 1-3 (team 2-4) w/4.24 era on road -- much better in last 2 on road, May 30th @Seat and June 5th @NYY
--------------------
Loaiza....5....114.....5-6/6-8.....1.47...4.96......15
Blank.....7.....96......0-2/0-2.....1.71...6.94.......9.5*
...Loaiza LH .324
...Blank RH .281, SLG .561
...*Blank 3RATE pro-rated for 1st 2 big-league starts, both pretty rough, @Atl May 29th & @Balt June 8th -- 1 relief app. between, 2.1 scoreless IP vs Philly June 1st; 5-4 w/3.94 era at Triple-A Ottawa in 2001
--------------------
Adams.....5....99......0-0/1-1....1.16...4.65.......15*
Washburn..5...93.....4-4/6-5....1.45...4.39.....18.5
...Adams LH .211, SLG .309
...Washburn LH .291
...*Adams 3RATE pro-rated for 1st 2 major league starts -- has been a reliever in bigs since '95
--------------------
Blair..........1st 2001 ML appearance
Ellis......5...72.........5-2/8-3.....1.47....4.90......14.5
...Ellis RH .324
...Blair just re-signed with Tigers after being released by Indians; 4-3 w/2.75 era in 11 Triple-A starts for Indians franchise in 2001; 59-82 w/1.17 whip & 4.93 era with Tigers in '99 and '00 as starter & reliever
---------------------
Halama....5...94......5-4/9-4.....1.51...4.80......15.5
Loewer....5...61......0-1/0-1.....3.43....23.14.....N/A
...Halama LH .338, RH .298
...Loewer one appearance in 2001 @Seat: 2.1 IP, 6 H (2 HR), 6 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, L1-8; nothing special in '99 & '00 as starter and reliever with Philly
...M's have won 4 straight Halama starts (mind you, Loewer could probably win 4 straight with the M's)

A question for Mrvalue, just in case you happen to stop by:

I was thinking about your MOB concept, and I realized that these #'s should, in fact, be directly correlated with the WHIP's.
However, when I tried to confirm this by checking against one of the totals you posted (the 33.5 for Cleveland/Pittsburgh, as I wasn't sure which A's starter your total was for) I found that there wasn't a direct correlation...

Burba WHIP 1.63
+Anderson WHIP 1.51
=3.14
multiply by 9 = 28.26

I'm not sure if your higher total of 33.5 includes hit batsmen, runners on via errors, or something else.
The large discrepancy interests me so please clarify how you obtain this total.
I'd be surprised if it does include men on by errors, although I would like a way to include team defense in my prognostications as poor defense has burned me several times this past week.

Not that I can include everything.
I just have fun trying.

Perfection is overated.
Good X on the diamonds!

I GET MY MOB STATS FROM (don't laugh) JIM FEIST.COM. CLICK ON PRO BASEBALL AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE,THEN ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE CLICK ON FAST FACTS. IT'LL TAKE YOU THE ENTIRE WEEK OF STARTERS. DON'T KNOW WHAT IT INCLUDES BUT IT HAD BURBA MOB - 18.44 AND ANDERSON - 14.95. 33.39 TOTAL.
PITT DID THEIR PART BUT CLEV NEEDED ANOTHER ONE.
QUITE A FEW PLAYS TODAY. I STILL HAVE TO SORT THEM ALL OUT BUT LOS/ANA LOOKS LIKE A GOOD UNDER 9 BET.
GOOD LUCK.

I agree with you on the over in the Indian's game. May have to add to the wager.

Great work and very much appreciate.

Thanks,
Bill

thanks again for everything, by the way, i started playing against montreal's blank in 8th grade and now that he has reached the bigs, i can officially confirm that there is watered-down pitching n the majors. i was not impressed with him in high school, college and not now. he seldom hits 88 on the gun, usually throws between 84-86. relies on keeping hitters off-balance but does not have the pitches< i think, to get major league hitters out, on a consistent basis. can't back anyone off the plate with that fastball. anyway, i will be playing toronto.
