Lost with North Texas smoking Baylor 52-14.NT set all sorts of records including over 29,000 at the game.Baylor must be hurting big.NT def line just dominated from the start.
NT offense is still suspect regardless of the 52 pts scored. But defense shut thge Bears down in every facet of the game. Poor job on my part with that one.My bad.

NT is at Air Force +8.5.Tough game to capp.Harridge can play the full game.In the AF 22-21 win over Northwestern he was kicked out in the 1st half for hitting a NW coach.MVC suspended him one half. But after watching the replay a NW coach hits him first. So they feel he was provoked and lifted the suspension.

NT will be playing in the thin air.And their leading Rb Cobb is hurt.Stayed tuned.....And Baylor is -2 over Smoo.Boy,Smoo must be bad.

Won with Conn over Army.Game wasn't close even though Army outscored them in the 2nd half. It was 34-0 at the half.Conn OL dominated the game.Army stacked the line and took away Caulley from the start. So 6'5 Orluvsky had a field day.Game was televised so got to watch it all.
Army had so many mental errors, penalties, drop passes etc.
Twice UConn got 1st downs for 12 man on the field.Confusion all over. They had 10 penalties for over 100yds.
Nevels started and again got hurt. He was 9-21 for 57 yds and had -4 yds on 6 carries.Dahman came in and threw for 143 yds and 2 Td's.
Barry who hates Nevels said"after a strong performance like that Dahman might get the start vs Rutgers.
Nevels did play bad but UConn softened their D a little too in the 2nd half.
Dahman does have a better arm.But has ZERO mobility. He stays in the pocket.
And Army's OL is as bad as I said last week.Jones is their only RB.They gained on 37 rushes 44yds.No holes anywhere. And all the subs behind Jones were converted TE's,CB's and LB's.None of them could catch the ball out of the backfield. None of them could pick up blitzes.etc, etc Nites are hurting big time with no running game. They didn't get a 1st down until 10 minuts left in the half.
Army defense palyed tough. That is there only strength. They did really stop Caulley. He had one run for 45 yds. They kept him in check. But UConn WR's were open due to no pass rush.Army DL which is OK couldn't put any pressure on at all. DB's were chasing Wilson and co.

Berry's team no doubt doesn't have the talent. But he can't blame Armys former coaches because these kids are all his.he can't blame the new system because its in its 4th yr.
The joke around here is "who is going to be blamed for Army s season this yr".
Well Berry at his post game show has another excuse.According to Berry.... "some of the oppenents on are the post"[West Point].
He said point blank......that the lack of confidence by some West Point civilians has bred doubt in his players....

Your team is penalized 10 times for over 106yds.You have 2 guys running into the UConn punt returner. You have stopped UConn on 3rd and 4 but had 12 players out there to do it.Ten minuts later, you do it again with the 12 man shift.
And you have the "balls" to say it the "civies" at the Point. You have won 5 games in 4 yrs.
Let me stop before I jump into the Hudson.

Rutgers -6 comes in on Sat. They played Mich St pretty tough in the 1st half only to finally lose 44-28.They like Army couldn't run the ball.
But Schaino has about 30 players from Florida on his team.Lyr Rutgers was +4 vs the cadets and blew them away 44-0.
Maybe not as bad but the Scarlet Nites should handle the Black Nites and cover by double digits.
RU is athletic and has speed.Army has neither. And If Nevels doesn't play Dahman will be a sitting duck in the pocket vs RU rush.

Like Conn +5 over BC..what a game that should be esp. with BC knocking off Penn St.Can you believe UConn has a better Qb and RB then anyone at Penn St.Never would of ever thought that. Will be back later in the week to capp these games and a few more.

Had Army in their game last year against Rutgers. Couldn't have been further off. As you mentioned, 44-0 and it wasn't even that close. Army didn't look like they belonged on the same field. Not sure how much could have changed since then...would be shocked if the line stayed at 6.

Hoops,I agree. The line will move up to 7 or 8.
How's the "left coast".Do you miss us here in the Valley. The Commons on labor day was packed. Not a single parking space available.People had to go over to your old Jr High to park.
WRRN out of Rockland and Kingston televise the Army games.I think the next 2 are on ESPN but the rest are on that station.
Well, the weather is starting to change. It's cold in the AM.
We had a big day here in my hometown Sat.Paul and Paul jr from the Orange County Choppers signed autographs all day.
L'box my daughter is good friends with Mike T.
Paul sr did all the welding on my house a few yrs back.
They had 30,000 people here Sat.Tuetel's sold over 10,000 t-shirts at $25 a pop.
And half the show is all BS with Paul and Jr going at it.About 75% is staged. And the money keeps rolling in.

Timmy Hummel from J.S. B. was called up to the majors. He hit his 2nd homer the other nite.I boxed him for 2 yrs when we played them. What a b-ball player.I always remember saying he was a better b-ball player then baseball player.Ha..now he starts for the Cin. Reds.
Take care,Rutgers wins by 10-14 pts on Sat.
Can you vote out there being a New Yorker? Better yet,can you run for Gov.? later

Let me provide what I can as far as how the RU team has changed since their 44-0 meeting last year.

Offense:
First off, Ryan Hart is established as the QB, no ifs and or buts. Against Army last year Ted Trump (this year's backup) was the QB and had a field day throwuing the ball. This is something to take note of for 2 reasons: 1. Rutgers QBs got pounded by every team other than Army last year. They had no time to throw and constantly were pressured into bad passes. 2. Army did a reasonable job slowing UConn's running game last week, but Orlovsky threw for 300 in the first half alone. Rutger's new OC brought in a west coast passing O that allows Hart to get rid of the ball quickly without facing much pressure. (He was sacked 4 times by Mich ST last week but I beleive most of the pressure he faced was in the 2nd half as he threw for 206 in the first half). Speaking of the Oline, Rutgers had what was probably the worst Oline in college football last year ans still put up 44 on the Cadets! This year, they have their 2 best back and have infused a JUCO and 2 of Schiano's recruits. Granted this line is far from being anything to write home about but is better than last year's version and will only get better as the year goes on (also, new Oline coach this year).

Rutgers basically runs a 2 back set alternating Justice Hairston (a freshman who initially verballed to Iowa and who actually started at RB over Maurice Clarett in Pop Warner ball in Youngstown...Clarett played Oline....meaningless today but interesting) and Clarence Pittman, a junior who had a 100 yard game vs Tennessee last year. Hairston will be a star when the Oline improves. He's more of a big bruising back while Pittman is more of a scat. RU's real improvement in the backfield is at Fullback with RFr Brian Leonard. OC loves to swing him the ball in the flat and he had a 77 yard catch last week vs Mich St. Kid is athletic as hell and holds NY state high school scoring record.

RU starts two Florida kids at WR. Tres Moses (BE Co-Special Teams player of the week vs Buffalo) and Shawn Tucker who had 115 yards last week vs Mich ST including a 65 yard TD. Overall this group is a ton more athletic than they have been in the past. Schiano's recruiting of south florida's speed is starting to reap dividends at WR. RU's TE is a favorite of Hart and has good speed as well. Hart looks to the TE Clark Harris and FB Brian Leonard as his safety blankets but they have the athleticism to make plays when the ball is in their hands.

Defense

RU returns to top notch corners in Nate Jones and Brandon Haw (BH had a 61 yard INT return last week). Both are big time speed guys and I just don't think Army WRs can match up with them. Safety spots are a bit inexperienced and are the weak spot of the secondary.

LBs have Rutgers fans the most pumped up of any other positional group. This year we get 2 RFr (neither qualified last year) that play a ton who were very highly recruited coming out of high school 2 years ago. Berkeley Hutchinson was a top 5 OLB recruit nationally and William Beckford is a kid outta Miami who was a top 40 LB recruit. These 2 are beasts with great athleticism but who are inexperienced and made some mistakes last week. Overall great depth and youth at the LB positions. For example, one of our leading tacklers from 2 years ago (Brad Cunningham who was a true frosh at the time and quit football last year due to a neck injury) is now 2nd string but still gets a lot of PT.

DLine. This group has progressed pretty well under second year Dline Coach Randy Melvin (same Randy Melvin who was the Patriots Dline coach during their super bowl year). Led by 5th year senior Raheem Orr, this group is a little under sized bhut pretty athletic. The big thing to note here is that we actually have a 2 deep here this year which allows us to keep guys freshed. This has never been an option in the past.

Hope this helped a little and I know it may be viewed as a little biased, but finally the feeling around here is starting to change. We're not ready to beat any big boys yet but for once we should easily handle opponents like Army without many problems. I think we easily cover this number but again I am an RU homer. Our biggest weakness by far is the Oline, but again they are better than last year and that group had no problem controlling Army's Dline.

Y'all need to discount last year's Rutgers/Army result -- Rutgers was in a *very* positive situation in that game, and it was no surprise that they rolled.... However, even if you forget about last year's game, it's hard to find a reason to back Army here.

What does it mean that Rutgers was in a "very positive situation" for this game last year??????? The two previous weeks they got smoked, not just beaten, but pummeled, by Division IAA Villanove and shitty Buffalo. Your statement makes no sense whatsoever.

RUFan -- those losses put Rutgers in a situation that historically has produced good results in the next game.

So you figured on a 44-0 game before it started because of that? Ok then, everyone else was surprised, save for you.

So, Hoops, I suppose you think Rutgers should be favored by 38 this year, subtracting 6 points from last year's score to reflect the change in home field?

My point is that there was reason to expect that Rutgers would have a good game against Army last year, and that the score OBVIOUSLY exaggerates the difference between the two teams. Sorry if that's too complicated for you -- I was jsut trying to help.

Funny, but I think Hoops is just a little bit of a better capper than what you're getting at m.w. You even said it yourself that it would be difficult to take Army. . . the blowout last year has to be considered and not simply thrown out. . . especially since the line this year is under a TD. If it was over 2TDs, maybe your reasoning could be considered for circumstances under that particular game.

Perhaps not a large play on this one given that Army has only played a single game against a seemingly solid UConn team, but an average play IMO.

Rutgers -7 over Army. Will post some more info tomr.
Just got back from my HS football game.We got smoked in a huge upset.
But was "one degree of seperation" from 3 people today from West Point. I asked these 3 people the same question.

"How will Army do tomr vs Rutgers and what do you think the score will be?"

Person No1....teacher and adminstrator at my HS and a 25 yr old season ticket holder of armys games. He sits on the 50 yd line with all Army alums and brass.

"Army is terrible,Rutgers will win big.....but Army could beat them.....Maybe Army could beat Rutgers.Because this could be Berrys last win.I'll take Army to keep it close....Isn't Rutgers bad?

Person No2....teaches PE at Arvin Gym at the Point. Was Field judge tonite at my HS game.

"Rutgers wins 45-21.They got better this yr and we got worse.Thank god Nevels is out.Always gets hurt when were losing.Never got hurt when were leading. Is a crybaby.Dahman is better. They have a much better chance with Dahman.[I don't agree with that]
Berry will cost a Rutgers TD.It is going to rain tomr so that might hurt Armys passing game. But Rutgers wins big.

Person No.3 US Army recruiter stationed at the Point.Today had a table in front of cafeteria for 4 periods.
"Where is Rutgers?I'm from Alabama. We suck.I think the NCO's on the base could beat Army.

Just some intresting comments today. Will post tomr.

thanx box

thanx box

sorry about your loss, I know how losing in an upset must T ya off ...

go rutgers and uconn

gl, gregg

ps Box you have prob used a million trix as a coach but a couple years ago my team lost a big upset at buzzer, my first loss ever at home to league team, and I walked into locker room and said, "It's my fault, I'm a shitty coach" then walked out...

The next day, I showed them OUR GREATEST GENERATION video by Brokaw... i hardly said a word to them until it ended, then asked kids, "What is losing a game compared to what these guys endured. These guys died for our country and they are hardly older than you." My players we very moved by the whole experience.

Skip fwd. a month later rematch at their gym. We are very prepared for their OFF and limit them to 23 FH pts, prob was we scored 13 ... kids were too tite, and filed into locker room almost beaten ... I often get fired up but that wasnt tactic here. I asked kids what I showed them after we lost last time. They said the WW2 tape. And I said, "Hey, guys, its a friggin basketball game and we are playing not to lose on offense. Just go out in the 2nd half and fire and fetch. Don't think about where you are on the court, put the rock up and go get it. When it goes in, we are going to press their asses off."

1:15 seconds into 3rd Q we were down 1 pt, they called time and we outscored them by 30 in 2nd half.

Moral is: always something good comes outta something bad when U search for it.

I know UR a great coach, U will find that jewel in this loss and be a better club b/c of it.

all my best
gregg

Rutgers -7 over Army[I made my play early in the week and got it at -6.5.]

A lot of people have already said a lot about this game.Don't want to be redundent and boring.I know many of my posts are long ass and boring. But I type very fast and don't use spellcheck.

It's going to rain today so this could have an effect on the game.Dahman is replacing Nevels.Lyr in RU's 44-0 win Dahman made his college debut. He was 12-26 for 109 yds with 3 ints.Army never even crossed mid field in the 1st half.
Dahman is starting his 4th game.I described him already physically.I think he has trouble reading defenses.I watched a little of the Conn-Army tape this morning again. He throws into double coverage a lot.He would of had more ints but his passes were way off.
The key to today is the Army OL and the Rutgers special teams.
OL did play better in 2nd half vs Conn. But RU will attack that today.Army is so depleted at RB.RU LB's will be blitzing all day.Dahman is a pocket Qb.RU knows he's going to pass.Jones is the only real Rb.The rest are frosh or players learning the new positions.

RU will pressure Dahman all day.RU has 2 punt and kick returners that will score a TD today.Armys coverage team are bad.Army also has 2 dangerous kids in Stith and White.
RU center is questionable today and TE.

If you play the trends then take Army +7.RU has lost 12 straight on the road. Both teams finished 1-11 lyr.Berry is 6-7 as a home dog.Dog has won in this series.Scarlet Nites cannot win on artificial turf.Army is 14-5 at home in Michie vs Rutgers. I could go on and on.
RU is athletic and so much quicker. Both teams know wins are scarce this season. It's a must win for both.Lyr RU celebrated a little to much after their win.So revenge is there but.....
There are 2 sure things that will happen today at the Point. The army skydive team will deliver the game ball right on the 50 yd after jumping from 4,000 feet.
And a team called the Knights will win.I'm jumping on the Scarlets over the Blacks.

Conn +4.5 over BC
Liked this game .Conn offense has and air and ground attack.Orluvsky and Caulley are the real deals.Conn OL and DL are solid.
BC did a great job in beating Penn St.But I think Conn is better then Penn St.
Conn has been waiting for this game.Lyr they almost won at BC.There are only 2 Div-1 football schools in New England. And the Huskies are the new kids on the block.
Everyone was worried about Conn overlooking the Indiana's and Armys.I think this game is close.Conn Db's worry me.There small all about 5'10 or 5'11.BC is not taking Conn lightly. But there coming off a nice win and have Miami coming up next. Think Conn can beat them straight up today.

Nebraska -10 over Penn St...think Lions are still licking their wounds. Both teams aren't very good. But revenge here overules. That 40-7 butt beating could be reversed this yr.

Louisville +4 over the Cuse.. Cards could win.I like getting this many pts.Shelton could have a big day vs Cuse defense.Leflors also could have a big day.Cuse defense will be tested in the Dome today.

North Texas +10 over Air Force
Not a strong play.DeBerry scares me.NT defense is solid. But playing in the thin air vs an option offense might be a little to much for my Mean green.I capped this game and am still confused.NT offense worries me.But its my alma mater and we are on a roll.Small lean to NT.But if AF wins this 27-10 I wouldn't be shocked.

Like West Vir -6.5
Iowa -4
San diego St -19 over UTEP...blowout
Ohio St -10
Purdue over Wake
Mich -10 over Notre dame...where's the offense for the Irish.
Fresno +28.5 over OU
Kentucky +13.5 over Bama
Playing some straight up and in some parlays.
Best bet... Rutgers
Nebraska strong play
Conn and SD St solid picks
GL today.Way to many games.

Good luck today Box. You are one of the best. Always like your stuff.

I would stay away from UK or at least get it at 14. It all depends on how much of a let down Bama has. We have the potential to blow them out.

Also I am with you Uconn; Iowa; Purdue, and Fresno.
