I've been suffering with Sciatica/hip and leg Pain for a while now and Doctor told me something about Piriformis muscle and how runners/cyclists who over due it injure that muscle, which in my case was quite possible as I did over due it but way back when. This was the first time I had seen this doctor and having not being able to run regularly since October I didn't bother saying I used to run. But I have been putting up with discomfort since Oct with the last month being the worst. I had an MRI because they thought I had a tear in knee, nothing showed, cortisone shot in my right knee, anti-imflammory pills, stretching, chiropractor, Prescription for the back institute etc. A friend of mine had called me to invite me to her B-Day party and we got talking. Injury came up and she had said about coming over and using my treadmill/weights and in the mean time will show me some things to try. She suggested Pilates as she teaches it. As soon as I told her and showed her my problem she had me get a tennis ball and place it under my right ass cheek. She had me put my leg up straight in the air and pull it towards me (with her help pushing gently) still with the ball under me. Also roll the cheeks of my ass sideways and a partial roll to the outside. She had said if it's tender and hurting then it's working. I continued to do it and I have to say this is the first day in a month that I haven't had pain or discomfort....I can't believe this. My calve muscle is REAL TENDER and I've been applying the same idea to it. I don't know if anyone else has experienced anything like this before or it's just a fluke, but I'm  and real
I never did ask her if this was Pilates or her own method of therapy.....Hope this might help someone else.
