Greetings, Racefans! Welcome to Fast Forward! It's great to be back after a nice week off. In a few minutes, we'll get down to the topic at hand, but what about that race at Martinsville two weeks ago! My man Jarrett looks to be pretty well focused. Maybe Prince was right, and Jarrett is gonna party like it's 1999! The fans of Dale Jarrett hope so, anyway, right? I thought Ricky Rudd was going to finally kick that bad habit of not winning, but Jarrett played the spoiler. The funny thing is, even though I am a Jarrett fan, I was hoping Ricky could hold him off! But, Jarrett showed everyone that there is no "Team Order Racing" in the Yates stable. He could have sat back and let Rudd have the win, but I have a feeling neither Jarrett or Rudd would have felt right about it, or wanted it that way. Okay, let's take a look at how yours truly did for Martinsville, eh?
My Picks to win Martinsville:
2-Rusty Wallace -Ran strong early, but faded to 13th after "angry driveritis" kicked in. Calm down, Rusty.
24-Jeff Gordon -Another who ran strong at the start, but faded late. Finished 12th.
10-Johnny Benson -Yuck. 20th.
6-Mark Martin -Mark smacked the wall and then didn't want to talk about it. Wah. Finished 40th.
20-Tony Stewart -Stewart looks to be trying to turn his season around, and finishing seventh at Martinsville is a good way to do just that.
Shot In The Dark Pick-
28-Ricky Rudd -Oh so close, Ricky finished second after Jarrett passed him with 6 laps to go.
Others to watch:
29-Kevin Harvick -Okay, I was waaaaay wrong on that one! Harvick finished 34th.
8-Dale Earnhardt, Jr. -Slowly slowly slowly turning the season around. Finished 11th.
36-Ken Schrader -Finished 25th.
55-Bobby Hamilton -Maybe stayed out too long on old tires. Finished 4th. Could have challenged for the win but ran out of laps
43-John Andretti -I got greedy on John. Finished 35th.
Not a very good week for me, sorry to say. My best pick was Ricky Rudd in second. Now, let's get down to the good stuff!!
My Picks To Win Talladega:
29-Kevin Harvick -You gotta believe there is still a bit of the Ol' Intimidator in that car.
8-Dale Earnhardt, Jr. -You gotta believe there is a bit of the Ol' Intimidator in that blood.
24-Jeff Gordon -The defending champion of any race always has to be a favorite, plus, Gordon has his stuff together this season after rebuilding last year.
31-Mike Skinner -Notes and set-ups can go a long way, and a teammate can teach you volumes.
39 Other drivers -It is Talladega after all, and all you need to do to win is be in the front of a 40-car field when the checkered flag falls.
Well, I guess since I have really covered my bases with that last selection, I'm pretty well set for the week. The only thing for certain about Talladega is that nothing is for certain in Talladega. The aero-package that the teams will run is nothing new to most of them now, and they have run it twice as well as tested with it. I cringe when I think of a 43 car draft, 4 wide and 11 deep.
Here's hoping for a safe one.
