Walking into Emory University hospital for a meeting with executives and we ended up watching for 3 hours on the conference room television just stunned. Probably 50 people when all gathered.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
I was on a computer at the main library, UT in Austin, TX. Looking over baseball bets and gathering info on college FB games.

buddy sitting by me said news wire reports plane hit Twin Towers. I said big deal, you see little planes hit those skyscrapers once in a while.

He said no, it a jumbo jet! I check weather and it is fine, so real suspicious right there...

hours later they set up extra TVs in common rooms so students could watch the news.

I realized sports betting problem looming when the baseball main page at Yahoo suddenly took down the minor league baseball scores board (which they had then below the MLB on baseball page). Sure enough, the MLB board off a bit later.

The colleges announced no games to be played

bettors on forums started getting super worried NFL might not be played. I assured them it will not....I started handicapping greek soccer games, but those were taken off. Then handicapping tennis in Roumania, but those removed. Then National Rugby League games in Australia - later in the day the NLR announced they will indeed continue with playoffs and I found an excellent revenge match winner.

watched the horrible images unfold off and on over those TVs.

a few months later traveling thru NYC I visited the missing person wall at St. Vincent's Hospital in Greenwich Village - a huge display of hundreds of "person missing" fliers. You use most recent picture for these, which for most folks is them smiling on vacation, or at a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, or wedding, or family gathering all happy and having good time. 30 feet of these 8x11 color sheets on wall of thousand folks now dead.

went to hear the Monday night big band at The Village Vanguard, and there were more folks on stage than in the audience. Bartender said business been absolutely awful.

I had just sold my house and was at home packing and listening to Howard Stern and Robin screamed, "Oh my God, a plane just crashed into the twin towers!"

I listened to them describe it until the 2nd one, and then I turned on the TV. I didn't get much packing done that day.

Unfortunately I'll never forget when I sold that house.

when the first one happened cnn switched to live coverage. Saw the second one live
and even i was clearly seeing it was different plane i hoped it was a replay of the first.

Then the rest of the news started to flood in...

At work and I was 9 months pregnant with my first baby. I remember going home at lunchtime to let the dog out and sitting in the rocking chair watching the news coverage while rubbing my belly. The baby was just rolling around and kicking really hard. I was hoping she wasn't going to make her presence known that day because I didn't want her birthday marked as a day of tragedy.

Getting online to see what kind of chatter was going on about Ed McCaffrey's leg break the night before. Oddly, it was never mentioned.

A friend from college was spending the week in Iowa visiting family and friends before heading back to Thailand and his job with the state department.
We went to the Iowa vs Miami of Ohio game on the 8th of September and were supposed to go to the Reds-Cubs game on the 11th in Chicago.
I answered my door the morning of the 11th to him yelling do you have the TV on?
No I didn't so I turned it on a few minutes before the second plane hit. He had been listening to NPR radio and they broke in with the news of the first plane hitting one of the twin towers.
We obviously didn't go to Chicago that day for the game. I did end up going to the make-up game in early October after MLB suspended play for a week after the events of 9/11.

Where it is real F ing COLD
I had the day off an spent the night before playing darts and drowning my sorrows from a Viking loss to the Panthers. My mom was calling me over and over again and I finally picked up and she said, "some nuts flew planes into the towers." Then I went to gf's house and watched the coverage all day. Seems like yesterday
