BEGINNING MONDAY MAY 28
Atlanta at Milwaukee (3) 28th, 29th, 30th
The Brewers continue to hold first place in the NL Central, but they?ve cooled off in recent days (3-7, -$530 last 10 days) and could have their hands full with a quality club like the Braves. But Milwaukee is now 8-1 in day games at Miller Park (+$700) and they?ve got a pair of afternoon contests on tap in this series. PREFERRED: Brewers in day games.
Florida at Chicago Cubs (3) 28th, 29th, 30th
The Cubs are always overpriced here at Wrigley Field, and they could be vulnerable against Dontrelle Willis and Scott Olsen (if available), a pair of lefthanders who are starting up round into form after getting off to lackluster starts. Chicago is only 3-6 (-$440 with 3.6 runs per game) vs. southpaws this year. PREFERRED: Willis/Olsen.
St. Louis at Colorado (4) 28th, 29th, 30th, 31st
Jeff Francis had a tough time in the month of April, but his most recent outings have been outstanding (1.76 ERA last two). The Cardinals are in free fall in the NL Central, and their record against lefthanders has been absolutely pathetic (4-8, -$505 with only 2-8 runs per game). PREFERRED: Francis.
Arizona at Philadelphia (3) 28th, 29th, 30th
The Diamondbacks took 2 out of 3 at Chase Field when they met earlier this year, but the Phillies have been coming on strong in recent days (7-3, +$345 last 10 days) so caution is advised. Philly is 8-3 (+$420) in night games vs. righties here at Citizens Bank, with 5.9 runs per game in those contests. Arizona?s pitching is struggling (6.23 ERA last 10 days) and they?ll be lucky to salvage a win in any of these three night games. PREFERRED: Phillies vs. righthanders.
Chicago W. Sox at Minnesota (3) 28th, 29th, 30th
We like what we?re seeing from the White Sox lately (6-4, +$260 last 10 days with a 3.23 ERA among starters), but their lack of run production is an ongoing concern. But the Twins can?t hit lefties (only 6-10, -$740 vs. southpaws with 3.7 runs per game), and Mark Buehrle (+$415, 3.67 ERA in eight starts) is due to take the hill in the Metrodome in this series. PREFERRED: Buehrle.
Cleveland at Boston (3) 28th, 29th, 30th
The Indians are one team that is playing well enough to slow down the red hot Red Sox. The Tribe is averaging a hefty 6.2 runs per game vs. righties (+$1075 in that situation), and they?ve gotten sensational work from Fausto Carmona (+$435, 2.55 ERA), who?s likely to take a turn at Fenway. PREFERRED: Carmona vs. righthanders.
N.Y. Yankees at Toronto (3) 28th, 29th, 30th
The Yankees could use a breather after tough series with the Mets, Red Sox and Angels, and they?ll be up against a Toronto team that is without ace Roy Halladay. The Bombers are 8-4 (+$365) in night games vs. righthanders on the road, with 6.3 runs per game in those contests. The Blue Jays are only 10-19 (-$920) in night games this year. PREFERRED: Yankees vs. righthanders.
Detroit at Tampa Bay (3) 28th, 29th, 30th
The Devil Rays are only 4-12 (-$620) against righthanders outside of Tropicana Field, and they are taking on one of the top teams in the AL (Tigers 27-16, +$880 so far in 2007). But don?t use those Detroit lefties, because Tampa Bay has been effective against southpaws, PREFERRED: Righthanders vs. the Devil Rays.
Baltimore at Kansas City (3) 28th, 29th, 30th
The Royals were swept at Camden Yards when they squared off against the Orioles earlier this year (-$300), but they have started winning a bit more (6-5, +$520 last 11 days). Baltimore is only 8-16 on the road this year (-$665) and they are only averaging 3.8 runs per game against righthanders. KC has yet to be favored in a game this year. PREFERRED: Righthanders vs. the Orioles.
Seattle at L.A. Angels (3) 28th, 29th, 30th
The Angels have dominated head to head play so far (5-1, +$410) and after watching them demolish the first place Dodgers last weekend, it?s clear they are playing as well as any team in baseball (27-18, +$635). The Mariners are only averaging 4.0 runs per game vs. righthanders (-$545), so they are in for a long difficult series here at Anaheim. PREFERRED: Angels in all games.
Texas at Oakland (3) 28th, 29th, 30th
The Rangers are only 7-17 in road games this year (-$775) and their team ERA is over two full runs more than that of Oakland (5.25 vs. 3.23 for the Athletics). But the home team does not hit righties all that well (-$565, only 3.9 runs per game), their closer Huston Street is on the DL, and they?ll no doubt be heavily favored in all three games. We?ll proceed with caution for now. PREFERRED: None.
BEGINNING TUESDAY MAY 29
L.A. Dodgers at Washington (3) 29th, 30th, 31st
The Dodgers suffered a rude awakening when they were drubbed by their local rivals the Angels last weekend, so they could use a soft touch to help get back on track. They?ll be favored throughout, but that 7-4 (+$200 with 5.3 runs per game) record vs. lefthanders looks like something we can exploit. Washington lacks a quality southpaw who can get by LA. PREFERRED: Dodgers vs. lefthanders.
San Diego at Pittsburgh (3) 29th, 30th, 31st
The Padres should do well against the Pirates, a team that is loaded with lefthanders in the starting rotation (SD 7-4, +$325 vs. southpaws). They?ve got great pitching (3.18 team ERA) and Pittsburgh is a big loser here at PNC Park (only 9-14, -$725 so far in 2007). PREFERRED: Padres vs. lefthanders.
San Francisco at N.Y. Mets (3) 29th, 30th, 31st
The Mets have lost money vs. righthanders here at Shea Stadium (8-9, -$560) and the Giants have have an inviting trio in Morris (3.27 ERA), Cain (3.30) and Lincecum (2.95), at least one or two of whom should see action. PREFERRED: M.Morris/Cain/Lincecum.
Cincinnati at Houston (3) 29th, 30th, 31st
These teams have already played each other nine times in 2007, with the Astros holding a decisive 7-2 (+$595) lead in the season series. Houston will be overpriced at MinuteMaid Park, and we?d like to take the Reds to exact some revenge, but Cincinnati is struggling. We?ll take a closer look on game day. PREFERRED: None.
Atlanta at Milwaukee (3) 28th, 29th, 30th
The Brewers continue to hold first place in the NL Central, but they?ve cooled off in recent days (3-7, -$530 last 10 days) and could have their hands full with a quality club like the Braves.
