BEGINNING MONDAY, JUNE 19

St. Louis at Washington (3) 19th, 20th, 21st
The Cards have a long way to go to get back into the post-season picture. But they had a good weekend in New York and they are facing a terrible Washington team that has lost 8 of its last 10 (-$370). The Nats are only 4-13 in night games at home (-$670) and only 8-19 (-$690) when facing left-handers. Jordan Montgomery hasn’t had much luck, but his ERA is improving (2.19 last two starts). He looks worth a shot in this setting. BEST BET: J. Montgomery.
Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh (3) 19th, 20th, 21st
The Pirates were swept at Wrigley Field earlier in the season (-$300) and they are slumping, having dropped their last six in a row. They are now sub .500, while the Cubs are coming up in the standings (7-3, +$465 last 10 days). Marcus Stroman has been one of the NL’s top pitchers in 2023 (2.45 ERA in 15 starts), and Kyle Hendricks has played well since re-joining the rotation (3.18 in five outings). Pittsburgh is only 23-27 vs. right-handers (-$260), averaging just 4.0 runs per game. BEST BET: Stroman/Hendricks.
Colorado at Cincinnati (3) 19th, 20th, 21st
The Reds are a top money-maker in the National League (+$1325) and they return to Great American Ballpark having won eight in a row (+$980). The Rockies are heading in the opposite direction, losing their last five games while compiling a 9.31 ERA among starters in the last 10 days. Cincinnati is 9-1 at home vs. left-handers (+$1070) and they’ll face a pair of sub-par southpaws in this three game set. BEST BET: Reds vs. left-handers.
Arizona at Milwaukee (3) 19th, 20th, 21st
The D’Backs (+$1755 overall) took 2 out of 3 from this team at Chase Field and they are maintaining a modest lead in the NL West. They’ll send their top arms (Gallen, Kelly) to the mound at Milwaukee. The Brewers regained the lead in the NL Central when they swept the Pirates over the weekend, and they have a 16-8 record vs. right-handers at home (+$580). Hard to feel confident with either side, so we’ll steer clear for now. BEST BET: None.
San Diego at San Francisco (4) 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd
The Padres are on the move (7-3, +$265 last 10 days) and they could be available at some decent prices at Oracle Park. They check in with an 8-3 record vs. lefties on the road (+$535) and they are taking on a San Francisco team that has lost money at home (-$565). The Giants have won eight in a row, but their southpaws could be vulnerable to this lineup. BEST BET: Padres vs. left-handers.
Kansas City at Detroit (3) 19th, 20th, 21st
The Tigers had a big weekend at Minnesota, taking 3 of 4 (+$480). They are still well below .500, but the AL Central is so weak that Detroit is only five games back in the division standings. The Royals are only 19-52 (-$2365) and they come into Comerica with a 7.53 ERA in the last 10 days. They’ll be lucky to salvage a victory in this three game set. BEST BET: Tigers in all games.
Boston at Minnesota (4) 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd
The Red Sox swept the Yankees over the weekend at Fenway Park and they won 2 out of 3 when they took on the Twins in an earlier series. However, they have been a losing proposition vs. right-handers in 2023 (-$490) and they’ll be taking on a formidable trio at Target Field. Bailey Ober (2.65 ERA in 10 starts) and Sonny Gray (2.25 in 14 starts) have been outstanding. Both should help keep Minnesota on top in the AL Central. BEST BET: Ober/S. Gray.
Texas at Chicago W. Sox (3) 19th, 20th, 21st
The Rangers are holding steady atop the AL West (+$1460 overall) and they draw a soft opponent in the White Sox. Texas has a 3.79 team ERA (5th best in the league) and they average 6.2 runs per game at the plate. Chicago (3-7, -$230 last 10 days) averages a mere 3.8 runs per game against right-handers ($845) and they have a 4.51 ERA (3rd worst in the AL). We’ll play this series accordingly. BEST BET: Rangers when righty meets righty.
Toronto at Miami (3) 19th, 20th, 21st
The surprising Marlins return home following another successful road trip (7-3, +$485 last 10 days), and they now own the 3rd best record in the National League. They are already 16-5 in inter-league competition (+$1465), while the Blue Jays have lost 6 of their last 10 (-$270). Toronto is in the red when taking on right-handers in road games (-$570) and they’ll face Miami’s Eury Perez, who comes into this series with a 1.93 ERA in seven starts for the home team. BEST BET: E. Perez.
N.Y. Mets at Houston (3) 19th, 20th, 21st
The Mets are living through a nightmare season, as their highly regarded, and highly paid, roster of talent flops (33-38, -$1960). They rank 3rd worst in pitching in the National League (4.68 ERA), while Houston ranks #1 in MLB (3.33). However, it’s difficult to pull the trigger on Houston, a team that has lost 7 of its last 10 (-$600) and one that has dropped a bundle when playing here at Minute Maid Park (-$1015). BEST BET: None.
