East Carolina?s men?s basketball team has not lost consecutive games this season. The Pirates will have to beat a red hot Memphis team tonight to keep that streak alive and they will have to do so without at least one starter and mostly likely two.
When the Tigers and Pirates tip off at 7 p.m. in Minges Coliseum, ECU (12-7, 3-3 Conference USA) won?t be able to call on the services of Shamarr Bowden, a 6-foot-4 senior guard who is suspended for tonight?s game after being ejected from last Saturday?s loss to Texas-El Paso. Bowden threw punches at UTEP guard Konner Tucker, was whistled for a flagrant two foul and tossed out of the game at the 12:30 mark of the second half.
A few minutes later, Robert Sampson, a 6-8 junior forward who leads the Pirates in rebounding, injured his left knee after Tucker fell on Sampson?s leg following a free throw from ECU point guard Miguel Paul. Pirate coach Jeff Lebo said prior to Tuesday?s practice that Sampson?s status for tonight?s game is ?doubtful.?
