Should a book allow you to cancel a mistake you just made if you call up ASAP?

How does everyone feel about this?

The bet in question was placed online by a book on the top of the page. It was made in error. I called a few a minutes ago and asked them politely if they could cancel the wager as I made a mistake. They said "no," "read our rules" "if we canceled every wager that was made by mistake, we wouldn't have any customers."

What is the downside in a book canceling a wager of a customer who puts in hundreds of plays a month? (Full disclosure: I did make a mistake several months ago and they granted me a "courtesy" of canceling the wager -- but they do not grant that courtesy "twice.")

By the way -- so there's NO confusion -- I called up several minutes BEFORE the event was to take place -- as I did several months ago. This is not a past-posting issue.

let it ride, thus fading yourself, and see if it wins. ;)

Seriously, the only recourse I see is to bet the other side and lose the juice if you feel it's a pretty bad mistake. We have had several bs artist posters on here who claim to cancel bets, and they usually get thrashed by the viewing audience here as people who really bet know that books don't cancel wagers. Hope you win anyway. How do you place a wrong bet, anyway? I've never done that although many times, I wish I had.

Do they have a confirmation screen where they list the wagers before they are finalized? If so, I hate to be cold, but it's hard to have too much sympathy for you. I mean, they already went against their policy for you once. It is supposed to be the player's responsibility to check their wagers to make sure they are correct on the confirmation screen before they are finalized.

If there is no confirmation screen, I'd recommend finding another book. I have made mistakes many times that were caught on confirmation screens. I've also made mistakes twice taking the wrong side on accident. Worked out for me for $25 and against me for $100. Haven't done it since the 2000 football season, though. I learned my lesson after that $210 swing.

WSEX allowed me to cancel a wager I had just made back in early 2001, and Carib did the same the following basketball season. ALthough Carib told me they normally don't allow it and wouldn't do it again, but did so because I had just open the account less than a week earlier. Both instances were within minutes of making the play, and I certainly had a lot of respect for the books for allowing it. For the record, the plays went 1-1.

To answer your question, I say no. Once a play is made on-line or over the phone, it is final.

If a book takes the time to cancel a wager for you, they are going above and beyond what they should. They should also only do it once. Working in customer service, it's amazing how people make mistakes all of the time and expect the company to correct with no problem.

That being said, I would probably let someone cancel a wager once.

On the course!
I don't know of anyone who has wagered online, and not done that. Of course they have the screen that asks if your wager is placed properly, but most of us fly right past that!

It is our own fault, and that is the bottom line. It would not hurt the book one bit to take the bet down for you, but they certainly are not obligated to, right?

By back the other side, and swallow the juice, or else ride out the bet!:D

So Cal
Books cannot get into the business of cancelling bets. If they did this, player's with buyer's remorse and people who just heard the "latest" news would clog up everything with changes. I hae made more than one mistake. Hopefully your errors are on straight plays and you can buy the other side and eat the juice or increase the play on the other side, still eating the juice. Unfortunately for me - my mistakes usually come on parlays and you are sol on those. But there is no excuse - I don't know how I can possible miss them.

Would a local let you do that? If so I would like to meet him/her:cool: Once you have confirmed it's a done deal, I would feel lucky that that did it one time. They also probably have a db of notes etc. (most call centers do) and they would see that they have done it before if it was the same book.

Infinity will cancel the wager if; (1) The client calls within 5 minutes after confirming it and (2) the line has not changed. If it is within half an hour before the scheduled game time, it may not be cancelled as if we are in a rush, deletions and reports slows the system down.

I believe a good book will

I believe a good book will

I have done this with Blue Marlin Sports a couple of times, they have great CS and will take care of their customers. The big books don't give a shit! Sportsbook.com is a real prick about this stuff, they don't care at all about there customers, in fact they told me if you don't like our rules play somewhere else! So thats what I did and have been much happier at other books!
