Thanks!!

Hey Tom,

I knew some guys that used to do that and they actually get paid

a fairly good price to do it from the store itself.

Also knew some others that did it with furniture and they said

they would rarely get tipped. (Only old people he-he)

But wait you fall in that category so go ahead!!

Just kiddin buddy, I would say no but that is from my own

experience. Maybe with the money down in Florida they do it

more often.

If you giving up your old ones and they are taking them away,

they also make money on the sale of those to people who fix

them and resell them.

So I would say no, just keep the money and put it on a Halftime

wager. By the way, talking about halftime wagers, I have been

killin it on individual team totals on Foots and ok in B-Ball.

Tell us what you did!!

Leland

Is it delivery and setup or just delivery? Big difference in my opinion, if they are just dropping it off, then no. But if they are dropping it off, bringing it in the house, unpackaging it and hauling the trash out, hooking up the new one and maybe taking the old one out $20 per guy is what I have done in the past.

Forgot to include that Sears charged us a $50 delivery free. They are hooking it up (at least that is what Sears said they would do), not sure about cardboard removal. There is no OLD washer and dryer to take away. Gave those to our neighbors.

Now, would you still tip?? (in lieu of the $50 Sears delivery fee)

That's Ace!!! Good points.

SMACK SMACK!!!! What's up Leland? You be in the NBA halftime tonight?

Thanks Guys. It's not the money, just wondering if it's the right thing to do.

I use to deliver appliances and such when I was in high school...I never expected tips...but I did get some...form as low as 5 bucks...to as high as 100...Sometimes I would stay and hook up the equipment(we arent suppose to)...or if its home theater..I would run the wire and all, get it to work...and boom...I get paid. It was nice..

I say, if they do a good job and is promt...throw them a few bucks

TJ, having worked in positions that rely on tips in the past, i am a notoriously generous tipper, so don't go by *amounts* that i post, but base it on the situation.

IMO, tip amounts should vary based on where your home/apartment is located..... i don't think delivery/installation people are paid by the hour, but by the delivery.

If you live in a house with a nice driveway that is right next to your front door (or a laundry area that is very accessible), i would say that a $5-10 per person tip would suffice.

I personally live on a hill (called affectionately *THE HILL FROM HELL*) :D Delivery people that end up here are in tears before they knock on the door for the first time.

for starters, they have to come up 6 steps with (and narrow ones) they next walk up a 40 foot hill that is squishy from tunneling vols. the corner at my side door makes it impossible for a turn of any large or medium sized item, so they need to proceed around the front of the house while navigating around a sunken trench, a well, and a trampoline...... then they finally have a straight shot into the front door :)

Last spring i completely remodeled my upstairs. All new appliances delivered at one time (including 2 stoves, 2 fridges, and a dishwasher, and a washing machine, new carpeting installed in the upstairs, and all new living room furniture and bunk beds for 2 kids rooms that were set up.)

for the appliance delivery, i tipped the guys $100 each (2 of them) furniture guys $100 each (again 2 of them) and carpeting guys, since the acted like dicks and were whiney about the placement of delivery $20 each only!!! the other four guys wanted to cry when they knew how much work they were gonna have to do, but remained professional and pleasant thru it all.... IMO that is SERVICE and deserves a well deserved tip for the extra work they had to do. ahhhhhhh....to only live in a normal house someday :(

The delivery guys just installed our washer and dryer. They were not in boxes. Total time about 10 minutes. We gave each guy $10 for lunch and a few cokes.

They were VERY thankful. 1 guy said we were the 1st tip in over a week!

Thanks to all who chimed in!
