I think that Jim Tracy is one of the weakest managers in either league. I wonder how many times he will need to bring Shuey out before he realizes it would be best to keep him on the bench?

Shuey and Looper and guys like that are tough because they have good stuff. But there's a reason they're never given a shot at closing (or fail when they do). But if you had a choice, I'd have to give them some time to work things out and learn more about the approach. Problem is you want to be able to do that in non clutch situations. I disagree with your comment about Tracy being the worst manager.... how many of the Dodger's starting nine can people rattle off the top of their tongue? That says something about the coaches and entire system.

Through poor decision making, though not Tracy, the Dodger's once high touted farm system has been depleted by trades. They have made some very poor decisions and are paying for it. Tracy, in my opinion, makes many mistakes. Take Shuey, for example. Last night was the 3rd time he had faced the Phillies in the last week or so. Result was the same every time - he can't get them out! Why bring him in for a third time after he had shown he couldn't get them out in previous two outings. His refusal to use the bunt to advance runners is also evident. Even when they struggled, averaging only 3 runs per game for a long streak after break, Tracy refused to advance runners with the bunt. If his players can't bunt, that is a problem with staff, too. He had also kept Beltre buried in the 5th or 6th spot for most of the time after the break even though he was the only real threat besides Green. What good did it do to keep him behind Green? Tracy was quoted as saying he wanted to see if Beltre could keep up his .400 plus average since the break before moving him up in the order. The Dodgers were once noted as a very fundamentally sound team. They are anything but that now, I believe four errors last night.

Point taken, and we obviously have different sides on them. But when I look at their team, I see a lack of a #1 starter (Kevin Brown's injury, obviously eliminates him). And you also have a lack of production in the corner positions, and with the exception of LoDuca, you are shaky up the middle. Jordan and Green anchor the corner OF spots, but I don't consider them to be any stronger than, say, the Blue Jays from #1-#9. They have slightly stronger pitching ,but I put it on par with that of the Mets, who also don't have a legitimate starting staff. There's only so much you can do.... whether Tracy makes the most of his players, or they simply overacheive, I couldn't tell you -- I haven't honestly seen enough of them. But there is a definite lack of talent in LA.

I don't disagree with anything you said - you make excellent points. I actually detest the Dodgers. So I am happy to see them struggle. They have been a mess the past few years and the problems go beyond the field people. You make a great point though - top to bottom they just don't have much! Good luck on all your games.

i know it's after the fact, but having watched the tribe a number of years i can tell you that they learned absolutely years ago that shuey is not either a closer or a guy that can work out of a jamb in the late innings. he is best as a set up in the 7th or 8th. maybe the dodgahs figure that out.
