I have a terrible sinus cold, been using mucinex and sudafed. Its working, just not as good as I hoped. What do you guys use that gives good results? I cant breathe out of my nose to save my life.

try a neti pot sinus cleanse....you can get them at your local market/pharmacy for around 10-15 bucks tops...

if that doesn`t work, you might need a scrip for some rhinocort aqua or something similar...

i know it can be a pain in the ass...g.l....

nasal spray. if used correctly, and not abused, works wonders

i would use only the "saline" one...if you use the decongestant,it can become habit forming....you won`t be able to keep your sinuses open without the decongestant...

that mucinex is excellent stuff for loosening phlegm,though...that`s an excellent move,sylvan...

Try to get in a steam room, and any type of nasal rinse, and benedryl at night. There cant be anybody on the planet that deals with this more than me, and the above mentioned therapy will work especially the first two stopping it from ever happening. The benedryl is kind of after the fact to keep the nasal passages open, allows you to sleep and you should be opened up in the morning because I would only take it at bedtime. Perhaps some type of nasal spray (nasonex) or something like sudafed may help too. Good luck because this is tough to deal with....

:mj07: :mj07:

I was hooked on 4-Way Nasal Spray a couple times in my life for about 10 years each time :mj07:

I couldn't go anywhere without the stuff because if I didn't use it about every 45 minutes, my nose shut down and NO air was getting through.

Now I do use that saline stuff weasie is talking about but only around bedtime and not because I NEED it, because it does open up the nose and helps me sleep better.

I think I used 4-way one addiction period and the other one I used Dristan.

Those sprays should be prescription only.

Gardenweasel was spot on in his recommendation of saline sinus spray or a neti-pot. Afrin or whatever nasal spray you may try , if used for more than a few doses, will actually cause inflammation in the nasal passages that will feel like congestion. In essence, they cause a rebound effect that force you to continue to use the product to relieve a condition that they caused! Saline nasal sprays are 100% safe and non-inflammatory.

If you suffer from allergies or chronic sinus congestion, I'd recommend the neti-pot or even a sinus rinse that accomplish true irrigation of the sinuses. It seems kind of disgusting but can provide a great deal of relief!

Jack,

My bad! :0008

Funny you say that, growing up, my grandfather had emphysema, and probably lung cancer, as he smoked 2 packs a day. I always remember him using nasal spray a ton. Definitely to the point where he abused it. And I know it can have that effect. I just know a couple times when I've been really blocked up I used it a few times, it was just my suggestion!

Hope all is well.:0008

i`ll tell you what helps me an awful lot..breathe-right nasal strips....

i don`t go to bed without one...ever....

http://www.breatheright.com/FreeSampleComplete.aspx

costs about 10 bucks a month in walmart..i buy 5 boxes at a a time....the large....... used to wake up gasping before i started using them...thought i had apnea...now i sleep straight through(when the prostate cooperates)...

i would suggest that anyone that has trouble breathing at night try them......it pulls open your nostrils....

it honestly really helps a ton...clean the top of your nose with a little astringent or alcohol and put it on..i put it right below where the boney part of the nose stops..:toast:

Afrin was the only thing that worked for me on my last cold. But only use it for 3 days tops. Thats always been my rule with nasal decongestants.

Thanks everyone for your input. I might try to locate a neti pot and give that a try, although my sinuses do feel better today. Thanks again.
