Smoo -21 over Tex ST *****
Only a week and half away and going to be nationally televised...
Last year Ponies beat them 47-17 at Smoo... this year its played in San Marcus with not a huge fan base due to the c-19 capacity rules.. Smoo won 10 games with Sonny Dykes and he has a stud qb in ex Longhorn Buechele who threw for almost 4,000 yds ..they lost a solid rb but last yr freshmen McDaniel who is now a soph had 159 yds on 8 carries vs tex St. they still have a sold wr corp ..they have most of their Ol back ..Sonny's offense is tough to stop they scored 37,49,41,48,43,45,34,59,28 and 37...some of those were vs decent reams like Temple,USF,TCU and some like Navy,Houston Ark St...
Smoo's problem was defense giving up 30,27,38,37, and 51..

Texas St has trouble on both sides of the ball Last years defense couldn't stop anybody going 3-9 in Spavitals 1st year...he had no qb and Vitt transferred .. right now there is a battle for a new qb and won't be decided till next week ..Bobcats have a ton of juco's and transfers that have come in . OL is mostly back and a few D-1 transfers rbs are fighting for a starting spot..but its the Tx St defense that could be the bigger problem .. LB's have no depth.DL is weak and can't create a pass rush. 2 db's are back ...Last year I got to sit on the 50 yd line and watch the Troy qb destroy the bobcats defense final score 61-7 Buechele with some pass protection should be able to light it up.
Will keep everyone up to date this week
Spavital was Sonny's Off Coordinator when both were at Cal but last year Sonny did beat him 41-17 and the line was Smoo -18... think weak Tx ST offense will score some on Smoo's poor defense but Smoo's offense should be able to put a lot of points on the board.
will keep everyone updated..think Pony's should cover this by over 3 td's

will do UTEP-Texas and Mid Tenn -Army later this week

North Texas -23 over Houston Baptist ***

Army -3 over MT ****

Smoo -21 over Tx St *******

off to the game 25% capacity .. will sit by myself and hopefully enjoy the game

Two years ago played Tx St vs Rutgers huge on opening day.. the line was Rutgers -16.. and Tx State was coming to New Brunswick NJ Rutgers destroyed them 35-7. Last year Rutgers on opening day played UMass .. the line was Rutgers -16 Rutgers won 48-21 and subbed in the 4th qrt. 3 years ago won big again on opening day again So am 3-0 on opening day ..must have been pretty bad on week 2 because can't remember those games .. But think I will be 4-0 by tonight Wearing my Green North Texas shirt and hat. If ESPN camera's pan the crowd today you will see someone just smiling and happy.. if you see someone in Green crying its me good luck to everyone today...

Jensen beat out Vitt last year at qb but Jensen transferred not Vitt..Vitt is now battling Memphis transfer McBride.. Vitt was terrible last yr and threw for 10 tds and 14 ints.. Jensen got hurt early in the season so Vitt took over. According to the coach next week they will name a starter. If Vitt beats out McBride its going to be a long season in San marcus Tx st doesn't have one single player in the pre-season 1st,2nd or 3rd team all conference.actually 2 db's made 3rd team. Smoo DL Williams a transfer from Stanford and was going to start opted out and is not playing due to the C-19..think game could have over in it considering the Smoo defense is bad.. both defenses are suspect If the 2 rbs from Tx St that transferred from D-1 schools works out and McBride the Memphis dual threat qb beats out Vitt they might be able to put a few scores up on Pony defense .. But Pony offense will put over 48 on the bd and maybe a few more.. also a 1st half line might look good for Smoo since both coaches know each other and are friends and Ponies might let up in the 4th with a big lead. think the over is 63? not sure of a 1st half line ..

Tx.St-Smoo update
This morning on the "horn" radio Spavital bobcat coach announced McBride beat out Vitt.. in Saturdays practice scrimmage I figured that since I thought Vitt was so bad last yr.. McBride is more dual threat where Vitt just sat in the pocket. Spavital said his offense was so bad last lyr he hired Pillar as his new off coord. from Miss..he is familiar with Pillar since they were all on the Cal staff together with Smoo's coach Sonny Dykes. Spat said he has over 50 new players this year with transfers and juco's so there is a lot of competition in all the starting spots. On defense they lost there strongest strength in LB's and on DL they line up only 3 so many of the jucos and transfers are vying for those 3 spots. With new schemes and 50 new players it might take the bobcats awhile to get settled in. he says we a bigger and quicker then last yrs team..
But Smoo's brings back its entire Off Line that protected their qb and gave him time to step up and pass with little pressure. think that happens again.. Buchele has a top wr in Robertson and Rice and one of the best TE's in the country in Granson.. and with soph TJ who had a career day last yr vs Tx St rushing for over 150 yds and 3 td's ..can't see the Bobcats slowing down this offense..
I can't remember the Troy qb last yr but just watched him destroy the Bobcats defense .Troy was -7 or -9 I think in that game score was 63-27 Troy subbed in the 4th quarter and Bobcats scored a few points. it was a blowout and really fun when your sitting right on the 50 yd line in row 6.
it was my 1st time in Bobcat stadium.. I always remember the PA system uses a locomotive sound to get the home team hyped really loud...then at one point the troy qb is under the center and you hear the locomotive sound .Thought home teams can't use a PA system when the qb is on offense and his players can't hear .. But realized it was the real locomotive sounding their horn as it passes right near the stadium.. I would bet someone in the booth calls the engineer as the train approaches and says " speed up,as the opposing teams breaks the huddle or slow down. the train is right near the wall of stadium ...

will update more info
the good news is I can attend the game. They are selling tickets to only season ticket holders I called the ticket office and told then I had season basketball tickets ...he explained that basketball and football season tickets are different.. I was about to tell him its ok the game is nationally televised anyway when he said " how about you buy both season tickets For $125 you can get 6 home football games and 13 basketball games. Damn .. I bought them Not sure if I'm going to anymore Football games but I will go to all the basketball games . So I will attend the game on Saturday
Will update any more news this week

wow 70 watching last years game and Smoo was up 10-3 in the 1st half.. then they woke up.. so forget all the coaches being friends theory... thrown that idea out... we really don't know the memphis qb transfer yet.. and Bobcats have 2 rbs from power schools transferring ...Smo will score + 48 pts no doubt.. but can bobcats score a few td's vs a weak Smoo defense.. last year ECU who had a terrible offense lost to Smoo 59-51..and smoo beat fellow sun conf team ark st 37-30 and tex st lost to ark st 38-14... not sure of the over-under now might just go with the -21.. at some places its -20 I think

will update all week

latest update on Texas St
Sturges has earned the starting rb position transfer from juco's McBride transfer from memphis will start at qb for sure. Starting Tight end Huff is out for the season ACL..Hilts the other TE is also out for saturday. Winter a freshman who started at cb last yr is also out for saturday..

last year bobcats had no rb's and were last in the Sun conf in rushing avg 77 yd per game.. think Sturges will be a little more help and with a mobile qb they might improve on offense.. But Smoo beats up teams there supposed to and struggles vs good teams.
Again think Smoo qb.OL.Wr. and TJ now a soph who had career game last yr as a freshmen should put a lot of points on the bd.
will update more as we get closer to Saturday ..

another update
some of this is repeats.. so sorry. TX St offense last yr avg 18 pts and 318 yds per game.they have 53 new players . McBride beat out Vitt but it was close. In the qb competition McBride took 162 snaps, had a higher completion rate and threw 12 td's. Vitt had better % in passes, but only produced 5 td's. McBride has to be an improvement over Vitt anyway you look at it. The defense to me is still the biggest problem especially vs the Ponies on Saturday. they have to replace all the LB's and lost their best corner back in Winters and lost their top TE on offense. Not sure how all these transfers and juco's will do but with no real spring practice and only practicing a few weeks it might take the bobcats some time to adjust but playing a fine and oiled offense will cause big time concerns.
I watched last yrs game where Smoo won by 30 on you tube.. TJ the running back had 150 yds and 3 td's He is their main rb .. But he had only 300-400 yds all season behind X Jones So in the one game vs Tex St he had almost all of his seasons rushing yds ...he sure looked good vs Tx St..
Spitival loves his new qb since he is a coaches son ..but think anybody is an improvement over Vitt

Got my tickets on my phone . only 48 hours away.. think my wife is happy to get me out of the house.. sorry for all these updates..probably boring half of you out there

wineguy I did take it -12 ** correction I got it at -11.5 **
Last yr halftime score was 10-3 so that scared me some.. but Bobcats have so many new players on both sides of the ball so I'm thinking Ponies get out ahead early . I was thinking since both coaches are friends and coached together maybe a backdoor cover if Smoo puts it in 2nd gear in the 4th with a big lead. Don't think he would run it up on the Bobcats.. but last yr Smoo was only up 10-3 in 1st half. And then won by 30 ..did put some down on 1st half and bet big -21 Its now up to -22 I think ..the total also went up to high I think Smoo will score 44-50 pts. But McBride and Sturgis are unknown talent transfers.. Think Pony defense is not strong but their offense is sooo good / Smoo qb will have all day to find his WR's and TE's ..And if they get the running game going Tx St will be so over matched ..not sure of live wagering since I'm at the game ...

news flash this morning .. yesterday afternoon 4 Bobcats tested positive for the c-19 virus One was Vitt the backup qb the others weren't starters ...

Just saw that Smu-TCU game next week cancelled due to TCU players tested positive ..well i guess my theory of passing the C-19 was wrong. Ponies can't give Horn Frogs it since they already have it. think handicapping games has another dimension now with + and Negatives all around forget ACL.achilles, knee's etc C-19 is at the forefront

With Smu not playing next week not sure how that plays into tomorrows game. Watched a video of WR Roberson the WR... wow this kid can break one an every reception 6'1 and 200 with great hands and speed. Also his 2 other partners Gray and Rice have speed..think Bobcats could be chasing these guys from behind all day. Could be a nightmare trying to contain these 3 in the secondary with the QB having all day to pass. Plus the SMoo TE Granderson is a 6'3 240 ..only makes me think even more the Ponies put a lot of points on the board this game will be if the Pony defense can stop or slow down the Bobcat offense. Think they will since Bobcat offense is so suspect.

think Smoo without TCU next week doesn't have to hide some plays or save some for next week ..who really knows good luck tomorrow Big play for me

final post before I leave for the game

Smu -21 over Texas St ******
Think the Pony offense will destroy the Bobcat defense. With the 10th best passing offense in the country and a qb that will protected the entire game . Ponies have 3 wr's that are speedsters and hit Gray or Robertson on a crossing pattern and they could go in untouched. Replacing Xavier at RB won't be so hard , McDaniel who had career day last yr in 30 point win. think he will have a "breakout" game and season. Dykes says Gray is the fastest wr he has ever seen. But Roberson is the stud. last yr he was hurt in game 6.. was going to go pro but came back .
This game today will be the 1st nationally televised game so Dykes has the stage.
The big question is can Tx St slow down the Ponies.. and with a new Bobcat Qb how will Tx offense vs Smoo's defense.
think the Ponies have to much offense and can't see Ponies punting to much.. game should be high scoring so over might be a good play
I have Smu -21 *****
over 1st half -11.5 ** over and out
If Tx St covers will just put my head down and say " my bad"
good luck to everybody

Sorry for the SMU-Tex St game .. was there...my bad.... it was hot and players on both sides were cramping..but that is not an excuse SMu had 2 touchdowns called back. The 1st one was the blind side block and that was right in front of me.. it looked clean live because of the angle. I guess when you see it on TV and they showed replays you have a better view. did anyone on TV disagree with the call . When your there you don't get to see any replays ..I thought it was a bad call but again your sitting at home have a better view. Then when Buechele did that qb back keep and scored untouched what was the penalty.. I couldn't see it and couldn't hear the ref on the pa. I guess it was holding. Then SMU fumbles in the end zone ..so SMU had 3 potential td's and gets nothing for them Tex St played great and that kid made a spectacular TD one hand catch ..the Tx St qb McBride looked good in the pocket and had great awareness and the Hill kid looked great running the ball SMU on 3rd down and long on defense gave up 1st downs . Buechele at qb threw 2 ints and had Rice and Roberson wide open on 2 plays and over threw. He wasn't getting much pressure but it seemed his ball sailed to much.. He does have a cannon of an arm. Think Spat out coached Sonny.. Thought the 3 SMu wide rec could beat there tx st defenders but only Roberson caught a bomb. I saw at least 3 times Gray wide open but he never got the ball .. not sure what Dykes game plan was.. Tx St although lost, SMU had 360 plus yards in the air,had 6 or 7 defensive plays for a loss of yds,a fumble and interception and 2 td's and and a lost fumble ...so final score was 31-24 when Tx St kicked a FG at the end.. was impressed with Tx St qb McBride ..and Hill at rb.. SMU defense wasn't very impressive .. sorry for steering some in the wrong direction .. thought SMU would dominate and they didn't .. maybe the 2 td's called back hurt and the lost fumble but that's why I retired in a condo in Austin and not on a beach house in the Caymons. will do better next week my bad

Woody will do better next time final update I suck
