I just got home from Pirates 3(we liked it very much BTW). I go out on the deck to start the grill and there's a 2 foot snake right there by the grill. After shitting myself, I hop back inside trying to figure out what to do. I think it's a rat snake(I know, not poisonous but I don't give a damn....it's a phucking snake!).

Besides grabbing my glock, any suggestions? My kids are freaking out(along with Dad).

I just got a shoe box out but I'm not too excited about trapping him in that thing.

So, after you get done laughing, please give me some input.

Thanks.

OK, it's disposed of. Thanks very much for the golf tips! :mj07:

I placed the shoe box an inch in front of him, came in from behind and nudged him into the box, slammed the lid on tight and took a breath.

My 7 year old is screaming, "Let's get a knife and cut him in half!" I'm like, "WTF is this kid watching when I'm not around".

The 2 of us got in the car and took it down near the lake and let him go in some bushes nearby.

How in the Hell did it get on my deck? It's 12 foot off the ground. Maybe a tree? Who knows.

So, phuck grilling, I'm making tacos........after I have a drink(or 2)!

Thanks again for your replies.

Hi Rip. We actually saw Pirates last night and then we went back again today. 2nd time around was better for me. Picked up a few things I missed the 1st go round. I bet Pirates grosses over 160 million this weekend. Our 3PM was sold out and all of last nights were too.

Shrek 3 is very good as well. Volfan referred to some humor that the adults can pick up on. The 2 of you will enjoy it.

Have a great summer with your grandson!

glad u didn't kill it. Too many harmless snakes get killed all of the time. In all of my thousands of hours outdoors, I've never seen a single poisonous snake outside of Cottonmouths near water.

If it was black on top with a white and mottled underside then it was a black rat snake. If it was solid black then it was probably a black racer. Black rat snakes are not venomous. They have keeled scales, are constrictors, and are efficient climbers. They eat eggs, birds, frogs, rodents, and other snakes. Black racers have smooth scales, are not constrictors, are good climbers and super fast. Their diet is simila to the black rat snake.

Poisonous is an incorrect term when referring to snakes. Poisonous refers to ingesting a substance. Venomous refers to the injection of venom. Many species are venomous including snakes, bees, wasps, centipedes, scorpions, etc.

You did the correct thing by not killing it. Athough you may not like them, it is beneficial to have snakes around. Most snakes eat mice and rats. Also, some snakes like the eastern kingsnake eat other snakes, specifically venomous snakes.

Hope that helps.

Very true.

Generally, you should do everything in reason to remove or relocate a snake as they are very helpful to the surrounding ecosystem. They feed on many vermin that actually spread disease.

Spiders are another one that should be spared if possible. They contain mosquito and cockroach population to an extent, and I fawking hate those two. Usually move a couple of spiders a month from inside to out.

The golf course I used to work at killed 5 rattlesnakes in the last month, 2 of which were big ole guys. The month of May they love coming out here in Texas. I know these guys were probably innocent, but it is a huge liability for them to be on/near the golf course.

I was in a spot, my 2 boys were there looking at me to care of it, you know, "Dad can do anything!". I couldn't run!

Never entered my mind to kill it though. Now, if it was "venomous"( I'm learning Dr. Whitetail), I'm not sure what I would have done.

No grilling today either. Can't believe how many times I'm looking out on the deck to see if there are any new surprises.
