When I was 9, and with my father at a banquet for the Noon Optimist Club in Fond du Lac WI, I got a chance to meet "special guests" Boyd Dowler, Donnie Anderson, and Don Horn. When I told Dowler he was my favorite player, he asked me if I wanted to sit at their table! I got to eat right across from Boyd Dowler!!....2 TD catches in the Ice Bowl, and one in SB II. Donnie Anderson also scored in SB II.

I don't remember much else from that night, except when you're 9, and sitting across from the first athlete/celebrities you're use to watching on TV, they're larger than life, and it's a HUGE deal. All 3 autographed their pictures in my 1968 Packer yearbook, and I still have it! :)

Aikman - smart
Emmitt - heart
Irvin - will to win
Novacek - under-rated
Moose - self-less

A reason for winning 3 out of 4 - everyone has a role on the team. Shades of the Pats.

CLEEEEAR!!

Good Memories:
Old Baltimore Colts memory: Bert Jones to Roger Carr. Don McCauley - the 3rd down king and of course Lydell Mitchell who was immortalized by the radio call of the late great HOFer Chuck Thompson: "Hey diddle diddle, Lydell up the middle". The phrase was revisited this year after the Ray Rice 4th and 29 play. However when Chuck used this phrase, it was not a compliment. After Bert Jones went down with a separated shoulder, the Colts entire offense was, "Lydell to the left, Lydell to the right, Lydell up the middle...PUNT". At least we had a great punter in David Lee. On defense, the bad boy of Baltimore, Bruce Laird and the Shake and Bake defense. Later on we learned what the "bake" stood for.

Embarrassing Memories:

And of course who could forget Art Schlester, the gambling QB, literally. Art would be in the huddle, "OK boys, we are down by 6, but I got the Jets minus 11 so when I drop back, You fellas fall down on your routes and I will throw a perfect strike to Kenny Schroy, he will run it for a pick 6. I'm sure of it"

Can't forget Curtis Dickey. My uncle, who was a Baltimore city cop, calls me, " Guess who I just busted for Cocaine distribution!". At least I got his autograph..On the arrest warrant!!!
