Social Security card

My wife had to update her card since we tied the knot, and I noticed something on MY card that is not on hers.

On the bottom of my card (circa 1961) it clearly states in bold letters: "For Social Security and Tax Purposes Only. Not For Identification"

When did we start allowing the entire world to have our SSNs for identification? I give it out as a matter of course when asked for it, and wonder what would happen if I tell someone "no"?

I take recorded statements from insureds on a near daily basis. Question #3, after name and DOB, is "Please state your SSN" About 40% decline, at which time i move on. They are required per policy language to provide accurate info, but no insurance carrier i work for requires them to provide their SSN.

Yep- me too. I did notice that it is not on my PADI card though. When did you get certified? I did 2 weeks ago when we were in Jamaica. That is an awesome experience to go down there. We saw 2 sharks and a sting ray and were able to get up close. I can't wait to go back next December. :00hour
