western carolina -125: big game for both of these teams as they sit tied for 6th in the conference, one game out of 5th behind the citadel. that's a big deal in the socon, as the first 5 teams in the conference standings catch a bye in the conference tournament, which is huge if you want to make a run at the tourney with its automatic bye to the ncaa. both still get to face citadel in games where they should be favored. uncg has hit a wall of late, losing 4 of 5 and 6 of their last 8, including ot losses to both service academies. conversely, wcu has been playing well and , while only 2-10 on the road, january brought big road wins @ furman and etsu, perennial conference powers. this game could prove pivotal, as the catamounts have a much easier remaining schedule than the spartans. this game is especially huge for wcu, they stand 1-18 the last 19 against uncg, but go into bedford arena (the old fleming gymnasium) favored by 1- despite the unfavorable history. i'll go with the cats to cash their most significant socon victory in, well, probably ever.
